Digidesign is the Pro Tools killer. It's good software, intentionally handicapped by their makers, incredibly expensive, irritatingly priced (not unlike what Microsoft did with Vista), and not as good of value for money as virtually any of their competitors.
For irritating pricing, see this discussion, in which a service included for free with most of the other major competitors of Pro Tools offer some sort of support for nothing more than cost of purchase.
And let's not forget the uninspiring hardware you have to use in order to work with Pro Tools at the lower end, or the staggering expense of the HD rigs- which are good rigs, but... Digidesign doesn't really want to serve the lower end of the market, but if they have to, then they'll be sure to wring out as much money as they can while they're at it. See:
1) The puny (and artificial) track counts- unless one pays for more.
2) Paying to export Mp3.
3) This OMF exchange nonsense.
4) Poor support for video, unless one buys the expanded packages.
I really could go on. I think someone showed a link demonstrating Digidesign's stock prices, and the poor performance it has had over the last several years- about what you would expect. If anyone cared to display a link to that, it would be great.
How does this apply to the original poster? Get in, and get out, when working with Pro Tools as fast as possible.
