Mount smb shares on startup

Hi I am using SMB file sharing to access my Windows 2003 server.
Works fine, I Mount the shares this way:
I go to GO->CONNECT TO SERVER-> smb://192.168.1.1/share.
It succesfully creates the connection and mounts it to my desktop.
Now because I work with the shares often I would like them to "stay" on my desktop.
So I tried putting them on my user account to run when I log in.

Now the point <:) :
But because it's a laptop i'm not always connected to the network. Then the trouble starts and I will get the pop ups: connection failed. This is logic but annoying. Since it are about 8 shares I will get 8 errors and when I plug in my ethernet connection it doesn't rebuild them...

How am I supposed to do it 🙂

b4bol4t,

Well, you can't have it both ways, obviously. 😉 What you seem to be asking for is something that will detect a connection to your network, then mount the remote volumes in the background. Realistically, this is not something that is going to work.

That doesn't mean that there aren't ways to smooth the process. though. If I were in your shoes, I would first choose to not show those remote volumes on the Desktop. Instead, I would create aliases of them, and keep those aliases on the Desktop (make the aliases while the volumes are shown, then turn off the option to show the volumes).

I would assume that the authentication credentials for these remote shares are stored in your Keychain. When you are connected to your network, it would then be a simple matter to open one of the shares from the appropriate alias. You might be asked for your Keychain password, depending on your Keychain settings, but that's a good thing IMO.
