Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go on MacBook?

Has anyone got the Broadband2Go USB stick to work on a Mac? I'm thinking about getting one, but I can't find any clear advice on whether it works on the MacBook. Will it work through Bootcamp?

In my case the device is always recognized.

If I delete the drivers, it mounts the "drive". With either the drivers from the device, or the drivers downloaded from Novatel, essentially nothing happens when the device is plugged in. It most certainly doesn't show up as a Network device in Network.

This is on Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro Core2 Duo.

You're spot on with the current state, and as for your clarifying questions:

1. No drive ever automatically mounted on OS X. It all worked fine on the Windows XP machine when I had to set up and activate the modem.

2. No antivirus.

3. Yes, I made sure to go for the Leopard (10.5.7) download, though I'm presently running 10.5.8. And as far as that goes, I finally looked at the other two pages and it seems the drivers are the same but the instructions are different.

Something does show up under System Profiler, but not much:

Novatel Wireless CDMA:

Product ID: 0x6002
Vendor ID: 0x1410 (Novatel Wireless, Inc.)
Version: 0.00
Serial Number: _____
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Novatel Wireless Inc.
Location ID: ______
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 500

So it's recognized as a USB device, but not a mountable drive. Maybe I need to trade in for a different/newer one?

Another reader mentioned that if the drivers are installed on your computer (installed by the Novatel package), the drive will not show up. It might be worth trying to un-install the Novatel package first.

At the same time, this is a pain. Personally, I'd probably go to Best Buy and swap out the device. Good luck!

I just purchased the Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go USB modem. I was able to activate it and program it all on my MacBook. It seems to natively support the Mac now. It is a Novatel MC760 modem. Working great now. 923 Kbps down / 342 Kbps up here on the westside of Albuquerque NM. Not too shabby. I like it.

I have found that using a Belkin USB angle adapter with the Novatel MC760 which puts it in a vertical position has doubled the speeds that I was getting. 923 Kbps down / 342 Kbps up. Big improvement and works good. So rather than sticking straight out horizontally from the USB port it is now vertical or can be adjusted in various positions as needed. Very handy. This also allows something to be plugged into the other USB port.
