Airport quits, restart necessary

My Airport seems to be only temporary. When I start up, Airport's working fine, but some time later (a few hours, one hour, a few minutes) It goes away. The Airport icon goes totally and no networks show, despite the fact that there are usually at least three in my area.

So far, the only way to restore the Airport connection has been to restart.

Until recently, Airport has been rock-solid. I've had my computer for about three weeks, but the problem is very fresh.

What's changed? Well, I downloaded and installed the latest Tiger update. But I haven't heard of Airport problems anywhere else.

Two days ago I installed a 1 GB SODIMM. It's a Kingston, with all the proper specs. System Profiler recognizes the added RAM. Apart from the Airport problem, everything else has been stable.

So, any suggestions what might be causing the sporadic Airport connection? And is there a way to restore it without resorting to a restart?

I applied 10.4.3 and Airport 2005-001 updates both in one step. That solved the problem partially, or rather, the symptoms have now changed.

I don't suffer the jumping cursor any more at all. No more problems with kernel_task running high on CPU.

But Airport now runs anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes before it stops transfering data. I still see full signal strength, but nothing will pass. Safari cannot load pages, Mail cannot send or receive e-mail.

What is also different now from the original problem: Airport on/off fixes this rather than requiring a system reboot.

Another forum suggested a router problem: But while the iBook G4's Airport stalls, I can still access the router wirelessly via my older iBook G3, also with an IBM laptop, and I can also connect the G4 with a cable to the router and all is well.

Is anybody else seeing this new problem?

I suspect that Apple's bugfix either introduced a new problem for these machines or that the problem was not completely solved in the first place.
