"Do you want iTunes to accept incoming network connections?"

Hi all. For some time now, everytime I launch iTunes, I am presented with an alert box asking

+"Do you want the application 'iTunes.app' to accept incoming network connections?"+

The options it gives me are "Deny" and "Allow". This appears everytime I launch iTunes despite the fact that the Firewall settings in Security Preferences are set for iTunes to "Allow incoming connections". By the way, "Block all incoming connections" is not checked.

I have deleted various preference lists without resolving this issue. Updating to the latest version of iTunes has not helped (8.2.1). Anyone with some suggestions would be helpful even if you think I may have tried it already. Cheers!

Thought I'd throw in my .02 worth. I too had this anoying issue. After reading through this thread, I rad the terminal command, found that things weren't valid, moved the old iTunes App to a temp area, and re-installed. No more problem.

The difference, for me, was that I had replaced the standard set of icons down the side of iTunes with the colored set. Unfortunately, that changed the checksum and did me in. So it's back to bland, boring iTunes.

On the other hand, changing the close, minimize, expand buttons at the top left from vertical to the standard horizontal isn't a problem. I expect that's an external property.

For me it seems like any changes to the standard iTunes installation does this.

For my part, being a developer (iPhone), I had installed the Beta version of iTunes that goes with the lateste iOS beta.

Then the pop-ups started.

All I did was to toss the alf.plist and the alf.plist.lockfile from ./Library/Preferences.

This turned the Firewall off, a reboot and swithing the FW back on did the trick.

I think I have solved the problem using these steps:

SITUATION: I was using Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and I upgraded it to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and I start experiencing the "iTunes network connection" issue. I updated it to Mac OS X 10.7.1 (the issue is still there), and then I updated to Mac OS X 10.7.2 (unfortunately, the issue is still there. So here's what I did.

1 - DELETE iTunes

  • Quit iTunes
  • Navigate to /Applications and locate iTunes app
  • Select iTunes and hit Command+i to “Get Info” on the application
  • Click on the Arrow next to “Sharing & Permissions” to reveal the access panel
  • Click on the lock icon and authenticate with your administrator password
  • Under “Privilege” set both instances of “everyone” to “Read & Write”
  • Close out the Get Info window and drag iTunes to the Trash, and then empty the trash

At this point, I suggest restarting your Mac. You can skip restarting but just to be sure, restart.

2 - INSTALL iTunes

And that's it. I opened iTunes and the issue is gone.

I have tried the uninstall (iTunes into Trash) and then downloaded the newest version and installed....

Message went away.

Then changed the icon on the new installed version back to my custom one and the message reappeared.

Here's the rub. I have been using iTunes and this icon (or others) for at least a couple years.

I use home music sharing and my phone/pad as remotes so I don't want to sacrafice those functions to eliminate this annoying issue.

Based on the icon change I'm pretty sure its related to this.

ANYONE have an idea how to fix it?

You saved me! This worked very well. And I rebooted too like you suggested THEN reinstalled. In fact, I couldn't fully uninstall iTunes until I rebooted. What's more, this fixed some other firewall issues I didn't know I have. Specifically, Drobo-FS needed iSCSI TCP access through the firewall and for some reason it was blocked prior to this. I suspect the reboot helped more than anything. Anyway, thank you kindly.
