We have little experience yet of ML..
Plug the TC directly into the computer by ethernet and press the reset..
Sparsebundle in use was a common issue with Lion.. all you need to do is reboot the TC.. this is not really the right thread. And giving the actual error message helps ..
See C17
Can't do easily. The TC is also the wireless modem. I am really tired of screwing around with the TC. I'll buy a hard drive and forget about the TC. I've had enough.
TC is not a modem.. it is a wireless router.. You do not need to do this as permanent change.. it is to briefly fix it.. but I do understand the angst.
Don't get cute. I don't know a router from a modem and shouldn't have to. In the words of Steve Jobs, "it just works". it doesn't .
The TC is going in the trash.
Erase it and ebay it.. other people will make use of it. Still go for a reasonable figure as they are still an apple airport extreme router even if the hard disk is dead.
I purchased 3TB TC July 17, 2011. TM has been acting weird sporadically. It never occurred to me that the disk was going to die after one year. And, unlike a disk you purchase separately, this disk is apparently not warranted w/o an A/C warranty.
So now I am up s..ts creek without a paddle. My computer no longer recognizes the disk. I tried my laptop and same thing. I called A/C and was told I would need to pay $49 for telephone consult.
Any advice on this? Luckily, I do backup to a clone daily. But what I want is the ability to "look back" which a clone cannot give me.
Having a disk die after only 13 months....most companies warranty disks for 3 years at least! I don't even know how to erase the disk at this point since I cannot get it mounted. Error code 6584.
Any advice?
I fixed one once by completely erasing it and starting over. It was a "sparse bundle" issue.
It is once again not working since I installed Mountain Lion. I am going to throw it in the trash
where it belongs and get a separate hard drive.
I can hardly erase what does not mount on the desk top. Wish I could!
AHA! We had a few very short power outages. Don't know if that caused the problem. But I was able to speak with A/C because I had purchased a new laptop and the TC was warranteed under that. YAY.
All I had to do was disconnect all the TC cables for 15 seconds, reconnect. TC rebooted and TM is now backing up again.
So...do that!
Time machine died - but i feel lucky compared to you guys - I got over 4 years out of it. It has saved my bacon on a couple of times when I had an issue. However recently was playing up (including the sparsbundle issue) and having incomplete/corrupt current backup files. This was probably an indication of iminent failure. There is a separate thread on sparsebundle - you delete the current backup file and its preparation file, unmount the time machine, turn off and log back in. However, I now have have no action whatsoever, no lights, dead as a dodo. BUT because I have saved valuable data I am replacing it with another. I reckon $319AU is cheap compared to having to re-enter all my valuable data over again from alternative backups. Also I use the wireless function to extend my current wireless network range out onto the farm for internet access where there would otherwise be non.
I have had a hard drive failure in the past (HP) and it wasn't pretty... there is nothing sadder than a screeching sound and blinking lights saying IO-IO-IO.
Good luck in solving your issues.
I am now in the Time Capsule Death Club.
I get a green light. Then an orange light. And then I can hear what I think is the hard drive trying to spin and then it stop and it all goes black. I could usually get it going again after a few tries but not anymore.
Is this for surely a hard drive issue? Why would it go black and not let me use the wireless capabilities?
Anyway, let me saddle up to the bar and join your club in a drink of sorrow.
(I lost no data as I knew it was struggling earlier when I could fire it up).
Smart man for taking the steps to respond.
If you want an airport extreme you can just pull out the hard disk.. the TC will then start up, complete the boot and run.. but the issue is more likely the power supply which trips over when the high disk start current demands it and the output drops too low. Although hdd can also start to get sticky and demand more current. This is a protection system for both the supply and the hard disk to prevent motor burn out.. from brown out condition.

Instructions for hard disk removal.
But the power supply will fail before long.. it needs fixing replacement.. soon.
I think I will just use it as a wireless router. Thanks Mr. Genius. Glad to have people like you for support.
It will make a fine wireless router until it dies I guess. Prettiest almost dead wireless router ever made!

Actually the nice thing is, if all you want it for is a wireless router.. and you are prepared to do a bit of DIY handyman stuff.. you can make it die proof.. the actual internal power demand for the board is only 5v at 2A.. you can buy a plugpack, wallwart, to do that for <$10. You can even do it without solder, by stripping the wires on the current board plug.. use a bit of connector strip.. and run the power into it.
All the details I put on the website.
Then you suddenly realise, if you jack the current up another 1A you can use a 500GB laptop drive from your old laptop when you changed it to SSD.. voila.. cheap, bullet proof.. TC.. albeit small capacity.
My Time Capsule is dead I can't reach it anymore afther a power break, so is this the HD I need to replace or is this a other problem?
Does anybody knows?
