iphone 3GS in SPAIN with MOVISTAR: NO STOCK ANYWHERE!

Hello from Spain,

The distribution of the iphone 3GS here in Spain is made by Movistar (Telefonica), and they don't have stock anywhere since 1 month ago... and is outrageous!
any other country with the same problem? They argue there is no stock available,
but at the same time used to liquidate the stock of older iphone 3G... I think it is unacceptable!

Please Apple, do anything! we are waiting more than one month to adquire the iphone and there is no way!

thanks in advance!

On Friday I went in to the movistar shop in Arroyo-Benalmadena and was told that their HQ in Madrid had informed them that they would have new stock to distribute in 7 days.

I was informed that I would have to leave my paperwork to prove my intent and then would get a phone call when the new phone was delivered to the shop.

I received a call this morning informing me that my new 3gs 32gb(white) would be here in the next couple of days....

Must admit I was surprised as to the great service because all the other shops were so rude seeing that I would not buy the 3g model.

I don't know if my previous post was censored, it's not on the thread or under "My Posts" - in essence, I got tired of waiting, spending over 40 Euros in calls to Movistar shops and distributors, and not being given a clear answer as to why they don't have any 3GS stock since launch day. I also said that Movistar now blames Apple for this, saying they are not supplying iPhones.

In any case, I got a legitimate, sealed and new, factory-unlocked 32GB 3GS from a shop in Barcelona, and they took three days to get it for me.

I've removed some remarks from my first attempt at posting to see if remains on the forum this time...

I'm not so sure that buying a free iPhone is a good thing. You will need a data plan anyway as an iPhone without data plan is useless, almost like an iPod Tounch with phone calls.

So you will have to pay 950€ + the price of the data+voice service. If you count a cost of 35€/month this makes 630€ for 18 months. So you will end paying 1580€ for your iPhone.

Buying the iPhone 3GS 32Gb with an 18 months plan (20€ voice + 15€ data) cost 199€, if you add the 630€ total cost of the iPhone and data+voice plan is 829€.

You can unlock your iPhone legally after this time, so you got the same and you save 751€!

I didn´t think of it that way but I was not thinking that everyone would need a data plan. My boss has an unlocked iphone and he says he doesn´t need 3g because most places where he uses it has free WiFi.

I wonder if you could answer a question for me? When I get my new phone with movistar, do they allow internet teathering?? and if so is that unlimited....

With regards to the terms and conditions of the movistar contract. What do the terms say if you were to cancel the contract should you have to return to the UK for instance.. Do they charge you for the remainder of the contract or do they have a set fee. Orange for instance charges you 150 euros to cancel the contract for their USB modem.

I have read somewhere that in the USA AT&T charges you 175$ as long as you have had the contract 30 days.... O2 in the UK on the otherhand calculates the remainder of your contract and charges accordingly.

Any feedback on this subject would be appreciated..

Yes, you can use tethering without problems using your current iPhone data plan. I've tryied tethering with my iPhone 3GS and notebook via USB and Bluetooth and it's great. You have the same trafic limits as your iPhone dataplan and there's no extra charge or contract changes needed.

Movistar distribution for the iPhone is horrible but they did a very good thing allowing tethering.

You are assuming that costs on alternative carriers are the same, when in fact, I have run my bills through an online analysis service, and it turns out I can save some 500 Euros a year by using another provider. Funnily, this alternative provider is an MVNO that uses the "official" carrier's network, thus I will have the same coverage as before.
