iphone 3GS in SPAIN with MOVISTAR: NO STOCK ANYWHERE!

Hello from Spain,

The distribution of the iphone 3GS here in Spain is made by Movistar (Telefonica), and they don't have stock anywhere since 1 month ago... and is outrageous!
any other country with the same problem? They argue there is no stock available,
but at the same time used to liquidate the stock of older iphone 3G... I think it is unacceptable!

Please Apple, do anything! we are waiting more than one month to adquire the iphone and there is no way!

thanks in advance!

On Friday I went in to the movistar shop in Arroyo-Benalmadena and was told that their HQ in Madrid had informed them that they would have new stock to distribute in 7 days.

I was informed that I would have to leave my paperwork to prove my intent and then would get a phone call when the new phone was delivered to the shop.

I received a call this morning informing me that my new 3gs 32gb(white) would be here in the next couple of days....

Must admit I was surprised as to the great service because all the other shops were so rude seeing that I would not buy the 3g model.

Just an update.... I can confirm that Spain now has the iphone 3gs 32gb for distribution!!! After I had left my paperwork for the order on Friday 11 September I waited a week before I started wondering when my new phone would arrive. Giving in to temptation, I went to the Movistar shop in Arroya to inquire as to what was happening... the lady in the shop told me ´no iphones available´, I eventually got through to her that I had actually ordered one a week ago and with this info she became very pleasant and went on her computer to look up my details..... there I was on the screen and there was a date... Tuesday 22nd September....

Tuesday 22nd came and being sceptical I didnt believe for one minute that my phone would be here... it would be more likely that my orange contract would be transferred and movistar would start taking money but I would have no iphone. How wrong I was!! My super white 32gb iPhone was tucked away in a locked drawer waiting for me to pick it up....

So again, the moral of this story is.... the new iPhone IS now available in Spain....

I have seen on this thread that tethering is available with Movistar but am unsure of the deal because on the website it says that the unlimited service does not include the tethering feature..

To be on the safe side I would check with Movistar before plugging in your computer because you could end up with a hefty phone bill at the end of the month.

Let us all know what you find out..

Yesterday, 24 Sept 09, I was going to buy two iPhone 3GS's fro the Torremolinos Movistar dealer in the Carrefour shopping center.

Because they could not tell me whether or not tethering would work with the 3.1 software update, I chose to not purchase anything yesterday.

For me, Nokia and any other operator other than Telefonica/Movistar is STILL winning.
Frak.

Please explain why the 3.1 software upgrade has anything to do with the option to tether your phone to your computer. Either Movistar accepts tethering as part of its ulimited package or not. I got my phone on 22 September and it has the 3.01 software, I do not intend upgrading it to 3.1 until I know it is safe to do so but I really dont understand why this is such a problem for you... my phone has the option to be a modem for my pc but I chose not to do so because I really dont know whether it will cost me or not....

Can anyone enlighten me as to whether tethering my phone to my pc will be classed as part or my unlimited package or not???

I have had my first bill from Movistar and I can confirm that internet tethering is included in the 15euro a month iphone package.

My wireless at home was not working so I connected up my iphone, both with the wire and with bluetooth, both worked great. I used it everyday to check emails and to surf a little for 10 days.

No extra charges on the bill so I guess it has answered my previous question.

My iphone was on 3.1 at the time and have since updated it to 3.1.2 and it still works fine.

And just one last thing..... this is the best phone I have ever had and can never imagine needing anything else...
