Can't Wirelessly Share Internet Connection Any More
I used to share my internet connection, without my router, through the Sharing panel of System Preferences. After messing around with some of the settings, laptops are no longer able to connect. These are the currently configured settings:
Share Connection From: Built-In Ethernet
To Computers Using: Ethernet, Airport
Kinda slight on details.
What happens when the laptops try to connect?
Which network did the connect to before (SSID)?
Do they still see the same SSID advertised now?
I will assume your mac can still connect to the internet?
It was actually my friend's laptop, and I don't have access to it at the moment since he had left yesterday. However, I do not think it was the laptop's fault because I can't connect on my iPod Touch either.
I am having the same problem. With Panther it just worked, but now that I run Leopard on a brand new iMac, it will not allow me o connect my PC via the Airport. It ***** and still have not managed to find a solution for this.
Turn off Internet Sharing, then download and install the 10.5.8 combo updater. Apple tech support recommended this cure and it worked... for two days. Today, after installing the Safari to 4.0.3 update, internet sharing stopped working again. I had to reinstall the 10.5.8 combo updater TWICE to get it working again.
I also am having this issue. I have a 20'' iMac that is connected to ethernet which I previously use to share my internet connection. I used AirPort to set up a network and in the preferences would turn on internet sharing. My AirPort icon in the menu bar would then show an up arrow and I would be able to connect to the network over wifi with 2 iPhones, a MacBook and an Apple TV. Now however, all of my devices can still see and connect to the network, but without actually getting the internet signal. I have tried resetting all settings in all devices, resetting my modem, unplugging...etc. If I turn all devices off however, then restart my devices will connect and use the internet, but then disconnect after a few seconds. I know that the IP addresses are not the same, but I can't recall if they were ever the same...
I was having the same issue. Upon reading other threads, I came across a fix.
"Actually, you just need to put 192.168.2.1 for the DNS server. I've been using this for a while now with my Powerbook. The router automatically forwards DNS requests to the ISP." (

Settings> Network> Airport> Advanced> DNS> +> 192.168.2.1
Then turn internet sharing back on, and you should be good. I was getting a "local" network, and now am able to access internet on my iPod and windows computers.
