My iTouch thinks that it's connected to the dock connector when it's not. So it won't allow headphones to work. I've tried resetting to no avail. Any ideas?
Haven't tried a hard reboot... Let me do this. I just plugged it into my PC to check if it might detect it's not plugged in after it backs up.
after backup: nope, didn't work. Testing a hard boot now.
after hardboot: nothing. still connected to it's mind.. 😟
Nothing at all actually. It seems to be completely fine, both on the ipod and to iTunes. Do you think a format is in order? Or maybe a small piece of metal or something stuck in the connector? sigh
Mine is the exactly same issue as freeqaz. Even after resetting it, headphones still won't work and if you double-click the home button it says that it's connected to the dock connector.
Take a small screwdriver (flathead) and scrape the inside of the dock connector. Clean out any gunk. After that, it worked for me. Seems to just be a short or something.
However, it happened after I did a very specific thing to my 1st gen touch: i plugged in a fairly old Griffin iTrip to it - using the "old style" of dock connector before the iPhone and touch were released (circa 2007).
It immediately went into "dock connector" mode, and would not come out permanently. However, if I inserted headphones, it would temporarily recover and allow me to change the volume.
This is a poor work around, though.
I have not tried cleaning the port, yet, but this seems more like a compatibility issue than physical...
