Macbook to Haier LCD: mini DVI-VGA Adaptor NO SIGNAL?

Hello- I'm brand new to the forums. I just have this problem and I've been reading all over the net on different sites and while I found relevant issues and problems like mine- I couldn't find a solution.

I have a 2 year old macbook and I just got a Haier LCD flat screen. I was ecstatic when I found that I could use spanning and use it as an external display. So I bought the mini-dvi to VGA adapter- connected the VGA to VGA cable to the television- followed the instructions in the owners manual of the television.. and NOTHING. a Blue screen with a "no signal" blinking around. It doesn't even stay on long enough for me to figure things out and automatically turns off...

I went into my display settings and set it to the correct resolution- fiddled with the placements, gathered, etc. I just don't get it. My computer knows that the Haier is connected but the Haier seems like a deaf mute.

The instructions in the owners manual specifies the order of turning on the tv and the computer and I've done every arrangement that could be possible...

I really hope someone can help me and if this question has been answered or solved in the past- I'm sorry for spamming it on the page again..

Hi mate, to be honest i cannot really answer your problem because i'm going through a similar problem but slightly different....i've just recently bought a apple mac G5 from e_bay. But the problem is that the guy sent it without any connections. I've e_mailed him but got no answer....so i went to a pc shop and bought a dvi to vga cable...but when i connected the MAC to my MONITOR all i got was a question mark showing on my screen. it is just a blank screen with a question mark in the middle of the screen. I've checked online and i found out that there is alot of different dvi cables and also i've checked the back of my G5 and i've realised that there is two dvi connections at the back of the Mac. One of them is a bit smaller than the other one. pls pls pls somebody help me....Have a got the wrong cable....or is there something wrong with my pc....pls help....thank you

I'm having a similar problem. Just bought a Dynex 32" LCD TV and connected it to my MacBook using the mini DVI to VGA adapter and a VGA cable, as well as a headphone-type connector for the audio. The MacBook recognizes that the TV is connected (it calls it "BBY TV" in the Displays window in System Preferences), but no matter what I do the TV just says "No Signal Detected." Anybody have ideas?

I just tried to connect my MacBook to my new Sanyo flat screen last night. Originally we had the same issue of "no signal". But when the TV was already set on the correct input, and then we plugged in the adaptor, it worked. No idea why that sequence was necessary, but it worked. I also had to buy the HDMI adaptor. I'm not very tech saavy, but I hope this helps.

A workaround that might work for other people: I had the same intermittent problem - no signal - with my old LCD screen (HP vs17) connected with a mini-DVI to VGA adapter. The problem appeared to occur randomly, but I was able to get signal by disconnecting/reconnecting several times the adapter or rebooting, no reproducible solution though. Up to a point where nothing would turn on the signal.

Then, I connected an old CRT screen to see if the adapter was the problem, and it worked without complain. When I connected back the LCD screen, it worked normally, and I had no problem since then (2-3 weeks).

So it looks like connecting to another, perhaps more "standard" screen has reset something. Not clear if it is in the adapter or the OS.

I finally started having this "no-signal" problem repeatedly again, now almost every time the computer wakes up from sleep mode. The amazing thing is that connecting the adaptor to a CRT screen that is not event plugged to the wall will do the job, as well as powering off the computer (not rebooting, power off and restart) with the adapter plugged. Thus, it seem that the adaptor needs to be reset by grounding its pins.

So I found another workaround: unplug the mini-dvi-to-vga adaptor from both ends, and introduce in the mini-dvi connector a rounded piece of metal thick enough to contact all pins (in my case, rounded scissors, a key would probably work as well). This seems to reset properly the adaptor. Plus I disconnect it before sending the computer to sleep, so usually the problem does not reappear before a couple of days. (Disclaimer: I assume no responsibility for damage or other problems resulting from this maneuver!)
