Scion xD

I have been using a 3rd gen iPod classic with the built in adapter in my Scion - worked great. I just bought an iPod Touch - I updated it to 3.0 if that makes a difference.

I can hook up the touch to my car stereo - it wn;t charge and I can live with that - the problem is that none of the functions work. I can't change tracks or navigate playlists from the car soundsystem controls like I could with the old iPod. I've seen a couple adapters that seem like they will help with the charging issue, but am wondering if anyone has seen an adapter that will allow me to control the iPod through the soundsystem controls.

It makes a huge difference. The 3.0 release caused many factory iPod integrations to fail, where the 2.2.1 release used to function OK. BMW, Mercedes, Honda, etc. as well as many aftermarket stereos and accessories are affected. There is an Apple standard that manufacturers are supposed to follow, but it's not clear if the rules weren't implemented correctly by the device manufacturers, or if Apple changed the rules with 3.0.

If you know someone with a Touch with 2.x software, try it in your car to see if it works (probably does). If so, then you'll have to weigh the features of 3.0 vs. the functionality in your car (you can step back to 2.2.1 if you have that version on your computer). Or, you could hold out for the 3.1 release to see if this gets addressed (I've read that September is the projected 3.1 release).

i have a scion tc, and i too am having some troubles getting the itouch to work through the car stereo's interface. so far, it's not something they seem to have fixed. i can get around the problem sometimes though by keeping the unit off while i plug it into my car and start the ignition. once i touch the screen, it seems to abort the other connection.

this is my big question though, and i'm about to sell this ipod because i don't know if it can be fixed... how can you stop it from interrupting play to inform me that charging is supported by this accessory? i have to manually dismiss the alert and then un-hang the ipod at interval with seemingly no way of just telling it to shut up, i get it. is there an override setting for such alerts?

i can't listen to music with this ipod anymore because of this constant interruption. there are about a bazillion scions on the road; isn't anyone testing this stuff before release?
