Boot into BIOS or mac equivalent?

How do I, or what is the Mac equivalent of booting into BIOS?

That question is more for interest, I see there are other ways to achieve on Mac what I would normally do from BIOS on a non Mac machine. Thinking of power options and scheduled startups here.

Hi Neil,

Intel-based Macs don't use BIOS, but its successor EFI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExtensibleFirmwareInterface

To my knowledge, there is no way for a Mac user to boot into the EFI, only certified Apple technicians do seem to have a tool which allows them.
