Hello, When my iphone was at 21% battery, I plugged it in overnight. When I woke up, it had the a low level battery warning and a charging symbol underneath the battery. It is plugged in with the wall charger that came with my iPhone. Also, before it did this, it would freeze all the time when loading apps and rendering Safari pages. Is my iPhone's battery dead?

iPhone OS 3.0
Have you tried plugging it into the computer to see if it recharges?
May also try a backup restore or clean restore.
If you can't get into restore, you can access recovery mode by holding sleep and home to show the apple and then home only.
I have the same problem... The phone was fully charged (docked), I recieved a call, talk and at a moment turn off and show me the red battery logo. I charged it now 2h but my iPhone 3GS is still "freezing" on the battery logo. If I put it on iTunes and turn it on DFU and try to restaur, I've got an error 1601....
Came across this searching after my iPhone did this this morning- same thing after charging all night, only mine was at 10% when I plugged it in. I hadn't had any trouble with apps freezing, but it did freeze up several times after that during the morning while it was asleep. Each time with the battery symbol with a fine line of red at the end, and a lightning bolt under. When unplugged from the charger it showed a plug symbol as well, before going black. Once I did manage to bring it to life again, it showed the battery as fully charged.
Trying to shut it down using the top button and the home button wasn't always immediately successful, sometimes not until after a few tries. My phone's barely a month old and not even used for most of that time.
