iBook user - getting SICK of Safari

Ok - I loyaly use Safari, and have since I became a mac user about 10 months ago. However, the past two weeks, I am getting SICK of safari crashing every day. Literally, at least once a day it just crashes while I am surfing through sites...most usually espn.com. Why is this happening? Is it a Safari update that apple has to release? Is it something that I should do to my iBook (I've erase the CACHE very often)?!? Help, I cant browse!

Check that you don't have any font duplicate problem. It is common for the Apple apps to behave like this whenever there is a font problem. If you haven't downloaded any new fonts lately, check your fonts anyway. Wherever there is a bullit next to a font family, that indicates a duplicate. Highlight the duplicates and select "Resolve Duplicate Fonts" from theh Edit menu.

Otherwise, I am sticking with Safari. I tried Camino, and in my experience has crashed several times more than Safari ever did.

No program can erase everything on your computer unless you give it an administrator's username and password, which means that no widget or any other program can do something like that without a user's knowledge. The worst it can do is wipe the home directory for the user that it's running under. This is exactly why Apple updated Safari to warn you when you download any widgets or any other file with executable code in it. Don't give your username and password to an untrusted program.

I don't get why you guys dont like Safari,

Safari works better on some sites, and/or is faster, than firefox and vice versa. Ditto for Camino, Opera, etc. If a person goes to sites that Safari doesn't work on but firefox does work on, then they draw the conclusion that Firefox is better.

Using this logic, a Chevy is better than a Ford.

My advice is to only take advice from those who offer a reason or explanation for their arguemnt. This can help you decide which proposition is the better one, since you can decide if the basis given for an argument does or does not apply to you and your application.

I generally prefer Safari. It works with more of the websites that I frequent than any other Mac OS X browser I have tried, including firefox, Camino, Opera, and a few others. It very rarely crashes. Having said that, I normally use the new free version (8.5) of Opera as I like the how it's just a bit more responsive (quicker) after clicking a link.

Patrick I just cleared several duplicate font groups (10 or more). Several months ago when I used the Font Book I had resolved all duplicate fonts.
Wow 10 or more since then. I will post back if this resolves the crashes.

Mac Geek (Jon)
I have never reset Safari. I guess I will double check that I have written down
all my passwords and logons to my various accounts first.
Thanks for your input all.
