iPhone Wifi Unable to join Network

Since 3 days now my iphone 3G(3.0) can not connect to a wireless network. Before it connect automatically at home or at work but now it says "Unable to join network". I have reset the network even restore my iphone to default settings. Still it can not connect to a wireless network. But what I dont understand is that it finds wireless networks but can not connect to it even to a free wireless network it keeps on displaying "Unable to join network"
I have called AppleCare they told me to do thesame things I have done.
Any body having thasame problem? Is it hardware or software problem? Please can any body help me? iPhone is no good without wifi...

I own a 1st gen touch and just recently updated to 3.1.2. I lost all connectivity to ANY wifi signal. I have exhausted all options including a trip to the "Genius Bar" They were baffled and told me, and I quote, "your wifi module must have broken at the exact same time you updated to 3.1.2. Scared to buy another one. Did you ever find a fix? I am desperate for some help! Thanks!

Well I was the guy who earlier stated that I had the fix, which I did but it only lasted a couple of days. I now am back to the chalkboard and my ipod is not connecting to wifi networks. I as well talked to an apple technician (by phone) and he told me the same thing. "Maybe your antenna broke at the same time you were updating your software" I seriously doubt that it is a hardware error because it still recieves the network name and strength meter! So I am stuck again. I have restored my ipod 3 times now and set it up as a new ipod, it didn't fix it. I even jailbroke it hoping that might fix it but it didn't. I am so lost.

I had the exact same problem with my 3G. After taking it to the apple store and being told I was out of warranty, I have been trying to get along without wifi for the past couple of months. I had almost decided to drop the 299 for a new phone when I decided to try the "freezer trick" mentioned here in the forums as a last resort. As a long time Apple user, I found it almost impossible to believe that any problem could be resolved by placing the device in the freezer for 15 min but, unbelievably, it worked for me. I turned the phone off, placed it in the freezer for exactly 15 min, turned it on and wifi connected after being down for 3 months. Wow!

Well, I had this problem since I got the iphone... I tried all of it.. reseting everything: router, network settings... tried the freezer even... after uninstalling app by app, it suddenly started to work after uninstalling SKYPE... now I can get Wifi signal everywhere... including home.... someone have an explanation for this (specially Skype developers???)

Hope it work for some of you... I now how frustrating is to have this phone w/o the wifi functionallity....

well I put my ipod in the freezer 2 days ago and it is still working. So yes you should try that I can't believe it works but it's nice to have wifi back. Otherwise if you haven't restored your ipod and set it up as a new ipod then you should try that. It didn't work for me but It eliminates any chance of a bug on your device.

Hi

I am having the wi-fi greyed out issue since yesterday. I bought this iphone in Apr 2009 and the wi-fi was working till yesterday. Suddenly, from today on, the wi-fi got greyed out and not working. Since I bought this iphone in India, i do not know, how to get the repair/replacement from Apple.

Can any one help me to get this fixed. tried with freezer technique too... no results.

After having tried the "reset network settings" option numerous times and resetting & reconfiguring multiple routers I finally went in to the Genius Bar for help (other iphones and laptops can join these networks with no problem). The "Genius" proceeded to restore my phone to factory settings only to find it could still not join any wifi networks. So he opened the phone up and said everything seemed ok but it must be "an unknown hardware issue".

Sounds like a defective hardware issue to me.

So now what? My only option is to buy a new phone.

Do something about this Apple!

Dear All,

I am staggered by the volume of people having the same problem with their iPhone.

I have vacilated between thinking this is a hardware fault and a software fault.

Having done a restore to Factory Settings my phone can now see networks but not join them.

How can we escalate this to Apple ? Mine has not been working on Wifi for overa month.

Clearly it should not be necessary to put your telephone in the Freezer
