Legal Pleading Paper Template

Is there such a thing for Pages? Word and WordPerfect have them, but I'm trying to convert my law office to all Mac . . .

Macbook Air, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Jerry, there are no numbered lines down the left margin -- in California, at least, you HAVE to be be able to refer to (e.g.) "Page 12, Line 22." The paragraph numbering system demonstrated on the example available for download is simply an outline that -- again -- Courts in my jurisdiction would toss out. (Yes, I understand it can be changed).

Fortunately, we do Criminal Defense -- that keeps paperwork down to a minimum, but I still have to use PC's and WordPerfect in my office to write motions and declarations accompanying subpoenas. I suppose I could abandon Pages altogether and just run WordPerfect on the Mac, but doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose? ;^)

Actually you can't easily run WordPerfect on the Mac, as they never made a version for OS X. But you can certainly run Word for Mac. Apple software is not always suitable for every purpose -- that's why many people use MS and Adobe products for Mac for particular professional needs.

Jason,

I looked at the MS template site and their legal template with numbered lines, the only legal template I saw there, looked pretty shabby. The text lines didn't line up with the numbers too well when they were close and some text lines were half way between the numbers.

I developed a numbering scheme for another poster awhile back. I believe that it has some advantages over the method in the Apple Knowledge Base article.

0. View > Show Layout
1. Insert > Table
2. Wrap Inspector > Object Placement > Floating
3. Format Bar > Same font you plan to use in your text.
4. Table Inspector:
---Headers; all Off
---Rows = 46 (may need to adjust), Columns = 1
---Column Width and Row Height; Automatically resize to fit content
---Set Cell Borders to None
---Return Key Moves to Next Cell
5. Text Inspector (with table selected):
---Line Spacing = Exact, all other spacing = 0
---Alignment Right
6. Type line numbers in first two cells and Fill Down by dragging Fill Handle.
7. With Table Selected (click off table then single-click in table), eight sizing handles showing, drag bottom handle to expand or shrink table to fit the text line spacing. Alternate position and length adjustment until you are satisfied with the result.
8. Create a paragraph style that has the line spacing set to "Exactly". Otherwise, your text will drift out of alignment from the numbers as you go down the page. Text your design with a full page of text and adjust the text line spacing and the table of numbers until you are satisfied.
9. Save as a template so you don't have to do this each time.

You may come up with some improvements to this if you try it, and it would be nice if you would report back any suggestions you have.

Regards,

Jerry
