iTunes freezes playing TV Shows

iTunes freezes playing TV Shows

Hi guys,

Recently I have purchased a few episodes of TV Shows for the first time from the iTunes store. Each episode will play normally for some time, but will freeze most times I play one, at a different point in the video but normally between half way through and the end. My Mac becomes totally unresponsive and I have to hard shutdown by holding down the power button and reboot to get the Mac to respond.

Running iTunes version 8.2.1 (6) and Quicktime version 7.6.2 (1327)

Any ideas guys?

iMac G5, Mac OS X (10.4.11), 17", 1GB RAM, Airport Card Installed

have updated to latest version of itunes, etc now they've been released but still having tvshows freeze while playing.

surely somebody here can help.

to try and give some more info after experimenting, so far I have:

1. removed any qt or itunes plugins
2. cleared pram
3. moved library to external harddrive to create more hd space
4. turned off all energy saving/screen savers
5. repaired disc permissions
6. rebuilt the itunes library

all with no success and tv shows will still crash randomly. i have discovered that when it crashes if i press the power button once, instead of holding it down, to put the computer in sleep mode, then reactivate the computer itunes will start to respond - sometimes will let the tvshow continue playing, other times the sound will continue but the picture will stay frozen. if the picture is frozen i can restart itunes and tv shows will play again for a while, before crashing randomly as before.

i have never had a problem with music videos, but this is probably because they're much shorter.

come on guys somebody help me out here.

I'm having the exact same problem with Windows XP. Does anyone know how to fix this... It's driving me crazy!

Mine does it too so don't feel bad and I have the new 3.06 unibody MBP. I am not sure what it is but I hope it gets fixed soon. Mine will freeze during playing then skip ahead about 4-5 minutes like it kept playing just a frozen screen. When it happens no mouse or any response from my computer - I just wait for it to start playing again the backtrack to the last part I saw.

ITunes has stopped doing this now, all on it's own.
