Re: Updating to 3.0.1 OS

Glad you all had such good luck. Tried to update my iphone to 3.0.1 and BIG PROBLEMS. At end of install, got an error message "unknown error" and the iphone now is completely dead (3GS 32 GB). There is a little icon that suggests I need to plug it into iTunes, but iTunes does not recognize it - neither does my PC - no indication of a new device when I plug into USB. Have tried multiple resets and nothing. Completely dead and useless.

Exactely The same problem after trying to update to 3.0.1 my ipohne stop wokring with an error message on iTunes "unknown error" number (14). Any one else??

Tried to update mine this morning and had the same problem, unknown error, had to restore and now it's stuck in emergency mode and iTunes won't recognise the phone. Brilliant. I've tried switching the phone on and off, switching the laptop on and off, updating the laptop software, plugging the phone in to a different port, nothing works. So I've currently got a dead iPhone. Anyone got any resolution?

The problem is in your computer hardware or software; something interfered with the update process. Here is the general restore troublshooting guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275

Specifically for error 14 this is usually a conflict with your antivirus and/or firewall software. Close the Genius bar if it is open, quit iTunes, disable your firewall, launch iTunes and try again to restore.
