How do I make a JPEG save as an EPS file?

there are probably some GUI apps that will do this (likely Photoshop is one) but if all you need is to convert just one file you can use the terminal command "convert".

the usage is pretty simple.

convert path/to/sourcefile path/to/destination/file

the source file should have .jpg extension and the destination file .eps.
enter

man convert

in terminal for more details.


to get a path to a file drag it to the terminal window. make sure that the spaces in the command are there as in the example above.

How can this be done without ImageMagick being installed? I have it on another machine running Panther and it converts, but it isn't installed on this Leo machine and certainly won't convert, etc anything.

I thought ImageMagick is included with the OS. I don't recall ever installing it by hand and I have it on my system. but if this is not the case then you'd need to install it first.

P.S. It IS curious. I checked my other computers and two of my mac pros have it installed but my powerbook doesn't. I did an erase and install of leopard on the PB using a retail leopard DVD. never did that to the mac pros.

It is indeed curious. My ibookg4, I installed it on, & it is not on ibookg3 and powermacg4 by any means. I did a locate originally before I posted to you, 'cause I thought I was missing something here. Thanks for the feed back.

You might check out GraphicConverter, it is an extremely versatile little program. You can try it before you buy it, and many people swear by it.

If it's a graphic file and it is possible to convert from one format to another, that will do it.
