Mac OS 10.5.6 Installer Disc Utility

Can anyone show me how to get to the Utility menu on a fresh Install of Mac 10.5.6 using the Installer disc? I need to create a RAID volume before I install the OS onto my new Mac Pro. On the RAID Utility User Manual, it said once we started with the Installer, we can select from the Utility menu to perform RAID setup prior to Installing the OS. However, I tried several times, I only got to the Language selection screen and then it went onto the Installation.

use the installer disc that came with your machine(grey disc). boot to it by pressing C, as soon as you select the langunage. You'll see this "welcome to Mac os x installer blah blah blah" DONT press continue. Instead look on the top and you'll see utilities. Choose disk utility > select your HD on the left pane > Raid

don't feel bad. actually, menu bar on the install DVD is autohidden for some mysterious reason and you have to mouse over to the top of the screen to make it visible. so you have to know that it's actually there to use it. this always struck me as a very poor design decision which confuses a lot of people.

I have never seen this behavior on any Leopard or system disc I own. Basically, as soon as the language screen disappears, the installer main window opens in the center of the screen & after at most a very brief delay, so does the menu bar, regardless of where the mouse pointer is.
