Possible Safari 4.0.3 issue

I just downloaded safari 4.0.3. Everything seemed fine, until I went to check my yahoo mail. There were three e-mail, one from Apple, barnesand noble and Toysrus. When I opened the apple nothing strange happened. Yet, when I opened the barnesandnoble e-mail the downloads box popped up with an entry showing Desktop 1-1. Well I clicked show in finder and when you click it, it just shows an empty textedit page. I immediately sent it to the trash bin and secured emptied the trash. I know clicking on it was pretty stupid, but back to the e-mails when I clicked back on the barnesandnoble e-mail a Desktop 2-1 popped up. The same thing for the toysrus e-mail, a Desktop 3-1 and 4-1 popped up. When you look in Finder under there are empty folders with the same titles Desktop 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1.

What the heck is going on? Is this some bug with Safari or was there some sort of malicious content hidden in those e-mails?

Same problem here... Updated my PPC iMac (10.4.11) yesterday including Safari 4.0.3, Java v10 and the latest security update. After these updates the desktop 1-1 downloads started on this site...

I have the exact same issue. 2.2Ghz Intel Core 2 with 10.4.11 & 4.0.3. Very frustrating and unnerving.

This happened to me, too - yesterday.

Needless to say, I freaked out, and this is why: 5 days ago, I lost my desktop and documents. About 6 gigs. Vanished into thin air. No desktop folder, empty documents folder. Not in trash, spotlight can't find anything, opened a terminal and looked around with ls, connected to another Mac as target disk, nothing. Took it to my apple store and the genius was stumped. Fortunately I had a somewhat stale backup and ended up not loosing too much. Pictures and music was still there.

So I am pretty nervous and on a ragingbull.com site and the desktop-1-1 file downloads and makes this empty Desktop-1 folder. Well, you can imagine the cow I had. I am now using FF and am still feeling nervous.

New development? This time, via Verizon web mail - a "safaritool" folder appeared in user cache. Also a log error: "/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari: Error: Embedded profile header length is greater than data length.\n" This after a renewed round of desktop-1 files and folders...

Is Apple going to address this issue? I am now stuck with using Firefox, with old bookmarks, for my business, and it's a real hassle. I am afraid to use Safari 4.0.3 now.
Is there a fix I have missed...or is this now Apple, ignoring 10.4.11 users?

I've been forced back to Firefox too... due to this Safari 4.0.3 issue.

You can import your settings and bookmarks from Safari into Firefox by going to File>Import.

I really liked Safari... but it's useless to me now...
