Apple Care Warranty? Worth it?

Is the Apple Care Warranty worth it? I'm buying a new mac, and am thinking 1 year coverage may be good enough.

... their main function is to generate profit for the manufacturer ...

Just sent my 2006-era 17" MBP to AppleCare for a Left Fan replacement. It was just a little noisy. Could have bought one from ifixit.com and do it myself ... But I had a week with no presentations to give.

AppleCare replaced BOTH fans, the logic board, and a thermal sensor. About $1000 in parts. Computer was repaired the same day Apple-Texas received it. I was without it for only 5 days.

No - I do not purchase extended warranties on all my purchases (like the one I was offered for a laser pointer). But I would not hesitate for a moment purchasing AppleCare for any future notebook purchases.

I have a MBP in which the NVidia chipset failed. While this is covered even without AppleCare, the computer is 2 years old. I still have 1 year left on my AppleCare and so far I have gotten a new MightyMouse and will also be getting a new keyboard, since some of the letters have worn off.
IMO, it's well worth it, and I wish I could extend it.

Most Apple peripheral equipment purchased with the computer is covered by AppleCare, not just the computer, as far as I know. It certainly covered my MM.
