Question

Inserting QuickTime movies into PowerPoint

I have cut out a section of a movie, made it a new file and inserted it into a PowerPoint presentation. It works fine but for one problem: when the movie ends, rather than holding on the final frame, it jumps back to the beginning - and I have not clicked on any button that asks it to loop.

Any idea how to make it stop on the last frame?

Please provide a bit more info: QT version, Office/PP version?

Ah... I only have Office X right now. I will have it upgraded sometime today and will try to give it a shot. If someone else has the solution before then please jump in!

Is the "Loop Movie" preference checked?

It can be found in: Powerpoint Preferences - General Tab - Movie Options.

OK. I know this is another basic question but is the Powerpoint movie player controller in view? Is the "loop" button selected?

The reason I asked is that I just took a movie and trimmed it down to 15 seconds. Then I checked, while still in Quicktime, the "Loop" option. Then I saved it and inserted it into a Powerpoint presentation. The "Loop" option stuck.

So it doesn't matter if you change the loop preference in Preferences, the movie could still loop if the option is still selected.

You can check this by single clicking on the movie. The movie controller should pop up. If not, under the Edit menu there is an option called "Movie Object" that you can select and disable looping.

I think that raiste hit it on the head. Even if PP isn't set to repeat the .mov file if the file is set to repeat it will
b always
repeat and PP has no control over that.

Nope, when I click on Movie Object, the dialogue box shows that neither "loop movie" nor "rewind when finished" are checked. Very perplexing.

I also went back into QuickTime, clicked on View and verified that the Loop option was not selected. The movie does not loop when it is played in Quicktime, only when it is inserted into Powerpoint. And, as I noted, the Loop option is not selected under Movie Object in powerpoint, either.

This is the last thing I can think of, at least for now. 😉

Is this the only slide in the show? I know if it is and the option to "Loop continuously until 'ESC'" option is checked under Set Up Show in the Slide Show menu, then the movie will loop.

I'll keep thinking.
