Light Scribe Drives

I did a search for this topic but couldn't find what I'm looking for.

1. Is my standard CD/DVD drive light scribe enabled? I've seen software for Mac that enables me to burn images - I didn't know my drive was enabled to do that and cannot find any info that tells me otherwise.

2. Is it possible to get an internal light scribe enabled drive for the iMac?

3. I suspect anyway that an external drive would be the best solution, does anybody have any recommendations?

iMac G5, Mac OS X (10.5.6), iMac 8.1 / 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 1 GB 800 MHz/DDR2 SDRAM/176 GB free space

I do not believe that there are any internal light Scribe drives for the Mac accept for the Mac Pro desktop.

So yes your best bet is to use an external light scribe drive...

As far as I know, there is no internal lightscribe enabled drive for Macs.

You might also want to check out these LaCie drives:

I've had a LaCie for years (albeit without the lightscribe feature) and it's worked flawlessly. I had checked out an HP model (1170d) and, if you check the very last FAQ on the following link, it shows that their lightscribe software will only work with a LaCie:

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a LaCie with LightScribe. It's Great. Sometimes it takes 12-18 minutes to print on the disk. It depends what you put on it. That's ok w/me

Thanx for the replies and apologies for not getting back sooner. My daughter's new PC has a light scribe drive so although I'm still interested in getting my own there's now no reason to rush into it. I'd still be interested in hearing of people's experiences and recommendations though.

Right now my LaCie lightscribe doesn't do what it should because LaCie hasn't upgraded their software to Snow Leopard. They give you a web site for lightscribe but that only let's you print on top and bottom of the disc. I do song cd's and always print the name of the song's on the sides. Until they upgrade I just write the names.
