I have been having the following problem, I will be working on my MacBook Pro4,1 and for no know reason, the keyboard and trackpad will stop working. I close the lid and the computer goes to sleep. A few moments late I open the lid and all is well again. Although this problem is also fixed with a reboot, it is getting irritating.
Any thoughts on a fix?
I hope someone will post a real solution for this problem, because my keyboard and trackpad failed completely after I had to reboot the macbook pro to get my trackpad working a few days earlier.
So yeah, "me too"
Apple, please have our macbooks replaced....
Better yet I know how to bring the bug up every time.
On leopard I have no problems, but since I installed snow leopard.
When switching between (2) spaces and doing copy and past in both windows. After several time +/- 7 times the keyboard freezes permanently (waiting does not help) only restarting the system helps.
On this strange the keyboard freezes but I still can switch between spaces with the buttons on the keyboard. so definitely a bug big bug.
ADMIN PLEASE REACT THO THIS BUG.
Or it will cost you more. I can not recommend anyone osx 10.6 (that mean right now all computers) because of this bug.
i have a similar, as well wide-spread problem with my mbp 3,1. keyboard falls asleep after a couple of minutes not in use. the first two or three characters typed are not being recognized. this may not seem like a biggie, but it is actually terribly annoying. you always have to check for missing characters while writing. emails don't reach their destination because of incomplete addresses. you get 404 pages due to mistyped web addresses...
i had a keyboard firmware update, a replaced keyboard as well as a replaced logic board. no improvement. i thought maybe i could get used to it, since i definately don't want to be without my computer again for a week or more, just to get it back with the same unsolved problem. but i can't. it's just too annoying. any suggestions? i'm still on applecare, btw.
cheers
I've been having this problem ever since I got a replacement top case from Apple late last year, but it's gotten considerably worse and more frequent with 10.6.3.
I'm quite sure it's hardware related, due to it never happening before I got the new top case. I need to just send it back again, but I never have the time to do so.
It sounds like you should start your own thread, but I'd say the same thing there: you need to somehow find the time to get your MBP repaired properly while it is still covered by warranty. I suspect you'll be very unhappy at some point in the future if you do not. Good luck.
You need to have BOTH the topcase and the keyboard replaced. This issue is a common hardware problem among MBP4.1 and it is covered by AppleCare. I had the same problem, until I had it replaced. After the replacement, all is fine. Good Luck.
I just disabled "When switching to an application, switch to a space with open windows for the application" and haven't been able to get Spaces to lock access to the keyboard since, hopefully it works for others.
Well, I tried this, but it didn't solve the problem. My keyboard just froze. So I went back and rechecked the box. I tried something else. By closing the lid on the laptop for about 1/2 minute and reopening it, I was unfrozen. At least I didn't have to do a complete reboot.
