iTunes 8.2.1(6) randomly starts playing music

This has just started happening to me today. I have a macbook pro 10.9 13-inch, Early 2011.

My keyboard functions for pause, play, volume, skip forward, skip back do not seem to be respondong as well with iTunes.

The apple volume noise now only seems to only work if I have headphones in. It used to work without them. So not sure what has happened there.

If I use Safari this also seems to open iTunes and play songs, tv shows, movies.

Do you think it is worth deinstalling and reinstalling iTunes? Or are there any other solutions? Thank you.

I just started having this problem, right after I enabled homsharing and got Apple TV.

I found out that if the laptop is within range of the apple remote, the apple remote controls my itunes and volume.

The problem was solved when I moved my laptop out of range of the remote.

Yup. Me too. This is an ongoing problem and it's INCREDIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL that Mac has done exactly nothing fix it. You're rapidly burning through your reputation as people who make stuff that works, ya *********.

I just started seeing this, traced it down to my Plantronics Bluetooth headset used for Lync on my Mac (if you think iTunes has issues try Lync). Everytime the headset pairs with the Mac it launches iTunes.

Why has this not been fixed yet? I see that the problem was occurring in 2009, and it is now 2014. This problem just starting occurring for me in the last few days. It just happened to me now sitting in a university lecture. My laptop started playing music, and everyone in the room started glaring at me. It was rather embarrassing. If I can't rely on my MacBook for school, I may have to start using a PC laptop again.

PS -- I have disabled IR remotes, and I have no external devices connected to my MacBook. I'm using Mavericks with all system updates up to date.

I did this and so far it seems to be working. Not only was itunes starting up randomly, but it was also causing itunes radio to randomly stop and start whenever it felt like. It has not done so since I removed the "wheel" user from sharing and permissions. Thanks for the fix!

I don't know what the "Wheel" or "Wheeler" is. This is driving me crazy and is going to cause some really embarassing situation, as I am a musician and use my Mac in my performances.

I'm also getting a message:

iTunes can't verify the identity of the server "p15-buy.itunes.apple.com"

The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be “p15-buy.itunes.apple.com”, which could put your confidential information at risk. Would you like to connect to the server anyway?

I am clicking "Cancel" as opposed to "Continue"

Ugh add me to the list .. Why is it doing this?

Its getting quite annoying .. It'll open itunes, play the first song on my list but it will pause the song multiple times.. Just keeps happening over and over

How does this get fixed? I'll see if removing and then re-adding itunes solves this problem

I'm also having this issue. I'm running iTunes 11.3.1 on OSX 10.9.4. It doesn't play music, it just opens randomly.

I've been having the same issue for a while now & having to shut down completely to make it stop. Found a thread here that suggested Applications>iTunes>Get Info>Sharing & Permissions>"Wheel" or "Wheeler">Remove. Tried it, so I guess we'll see...

Check your speaker "Jack" connection into the computer.
If this is loose or sitting slightly out of the Mac, it causes all sorts of weird scenarios.
So just push it in correctly and it you should be fine.

Similar problem here with MacBook Pro on 10.10.1 and iTunes on 12.0.1.26. No external speakers, no bluetooth, no earbuds connected. The same song from my iTunes playlist starts up without launching the iTunes app. A finger to the touch pad or depressing a key stops the music. No sign of the iTunes App. Always the same song from the middle of my playlist. Every time. And not the last song I was playing. Weird. Not huge but weird.

I've had the exact same problem lately, and the music won't be from iTunes, it's just random music, and I've not installed any new widgets or apps anywhere on here. I've had the same for months now. But when I started my MacBook Air back up, voila! Music without a source! I'm using version 10.9.5. How do I get rid of this!?!?!?!
