I also had the same problem with my iTunes randomly opening and playing songs, but it turned out it was actually my earphones because the button on them was broken I guess, and it would just keep on pressing the play button. So I just bought a new pair and it's been working normally since.
I have the same problem. I'll be hanging out with my hands off the computer when suddenly music will start playing from my iMac. It's the last thing I played on iTunes, and for some reason at random times it comes on of its own accord. I also have the latest version of iTunes.
this keeps happening to me as well. I have to keep my computer on mute because it will just start playing randomly throughout the day. Any ideas on how to stop this?
This is also happening to me.. only started today... I think this happened when I put my imac in to sleep mode while my itouch is connected (itunes is active).
I hope there is a solution for this. please advise for any solution..
You can add me to this list. iTunes is open, doing nothing... suddenly it starts playing whatever song/playlist was last selected. It also stops randomly for me too. It's only happening on my new iMac (though I don't really use iTunes on my MacBook Pro). At first I thought it was responding to one of the Apple Remotes, but I disabled the IR sensor and it's still happening. It's even happening in a fresh user account on my machine. Very weird.
I'm having the same problem. This is in iTunes 9.0.1 on 10.6.1. Does anybody else use an iTunes controller? I use GimmeSomeTune, but even when it isn't running I'm having this problem. I'm going to try deleting it from my computer and repair disk permissions to see if that fixes it. I never had this problem before iTunes 9.0.1. Oh, one other thing I've done is move my iTunes music folder to the root level of the hard drive and then put an alias to it in my music folder. I do this so that it isn't backed up daily (not my personal computer). Has anybody else moved their iTunes music folder to some location other than the default location? I've had it set up like this since iTunes 8 and it never made a difference before.
I use CoverSutra, but like you, this happens whether or not CoverSutra is running. I also have my iTunes library on an external hard drive, but have only started having this problem since moving from a G5 to my early '09 iMac. I definitely started seeing this problem before iTunes 9.x, though.
Well, it hasn't started on its own in a few days now. Unfortunately, I wasn't completely scientific in trying to figure out when it happens (I changed multiple things at the same time). I stopped using GimmeSomeTune. I also use USB Overdrive 3.0.1. I specifically created an entry for iTunes and then unchecked the Enabled checkbox, effectively allowing me to use USB Overdrive for everything except iTunes. The one other thing I did was specifically click on the heading for Music in the Library section on the lefthand side of the main iTunes window. The songs it had been playing on its own in the past were in some of the playlists I created. I've had those playlists for quite some time, updated through multiple versions of iTunes. Perhaps I need to delete them and create new playlists directly in iTunes 9.0.1. So I guess the moral of the story for me is, if you have any sort of input managers, try disabling them and see if that helps. If the problem presents itself to me again, I'll come back and let you know.
My imac will suddenly start playing music that is not even in my library. I have closed down itunes and it still keeps playing, it has even started playing without itunes started. it is getting frustrating because i need to keep logging out of my signon. The other users on my mac do not have this issue.
Add one more to the list. I've just seen this in the past week or so, iTunes 9.01 Additionally, I've been having problems when I use the keyboard shortcut (cmdopt+ctrleject) to shutdown my unibody macbook will reboot instead. (Yes, I'm sure I'm holding all the keys, it's very reproducible)... No clue if they could be related. I don't have any 3rd party agents running except my Logitech Mouse and Lexmark printer (had both before the problems started).
This same thing has been happening to me. iTunes won't be open, but then it just opens unannounced and begins playing. But it's only been when I've been watching a movie online, but not any particular video site.
Same problem on my MacBook. I don't really know since when iTunes has played music at random (I guess one of the 8.x-versions).
Since I've installed Snow Leopard iTunes not only starts playing at random, but also launches without me doing anything.
