Auto logout all users before scheduled shutdown

I have my machine scheduled to auto shutdown every night at 0100 hrs after it has done a Chronosync backup to my NAS server.

Trouble is, I often have two users logged in, my self and the girlfriends account. The shutdown will not proceed without needing a username and password, which totally negates the scheduled shutdown.

How do I get the machine to log out the other user and auto shutdown?

Yes, that is correct.

Thanks for the link, but I cnat see how that will work, since

http://support.apple.com/kb/TA22910?viewlocale=en_US
this article states
"With Mac OS X 10.3 or later, if no user is logged in, or if more than one user is logged in at the same time, the computer cannot shut down automatically at a time specified in Energy Saver Schedule preferences.
If you want to schedule your computer to Shut Down automatically at a scheduled time, be sure that one—and only one—user is logged in."

http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24041?viewlocale=en_US then states
Note: If the computer is not at the Login window, scheduled shut down will still occur, but an alert will appear if any users have unsaved changes.

For 10.5.8 on this machine, that is not true, I get more than an alert, I get a username and password request.

I have Fast User Switching enabled, so will try Auto logout and Scheduled Shut Down and see what happens.

since according to the article above, if there is No users logged in, then Scheduled shut down will not work.

I cant see how

If you have both user

I believe micp meant that you can enable automatic logout (not shut down) after a certain period of inactivity which can be set in system preferences->security->general. then by the time the automatic shut down time comes you won't have multiple users logged in and the shutdown will work.

Yes, I got that, but from reading the Apple article here:

+this article states+
+"With Mac OS X 10.3 or later, _if no user is logged in_, or if more than one user is logged in at the same time, the computer cannot shut down automatically at a time specified in Energy Saver Schedule preferences.+

So if all users are logged out, then the system WILL NOT shut down...according to the Apple article

So from what I understand, you need to have one user logged in for the scheduled shutdown to work.

Will have to look at this again tomorrow, try a few different settings and see what happens

Seems to work here also, the machine was off when I came to it this morning.

I will leave it set up for this for now and see if the girlfriend complains. It would be nice to have a:
'Auto Logout daily schedule' type option as well, so it does not logout between certain hours. The GF, when she is around the house, likes to leave a slideshow or music playing, for hours on end without intervention so I will have to see if the Auto logout still happens when iTunes or iPhoto, Skype etc are active even if there is NO mouse movement. If she has to go back to it every hour (or whatever time period) to login again and start iTunes/Skype/Photo presenter/iPhoto etc she will not be happy....and therefore as a consequence neither will I ;(

Thanks again

Well, I am just having to live with it not shutting down, if I forget to log myself out.
Yes it does shut down if I use the Auto logout feature, but I find the auto logout feature a pain as you can't select which users you want to Auto Logout, I want all other individual users to be logged out automatically, but the the default 'day to day' home user that we all use to stay logged in.

As long as we all remember to log out after individual use and log back in to the default day to day home user then there is no problem, and if the machine does not Auto shut down every night thenthat is not such a big deal.

Thankd for the help
