How to check encryption level on disc image (sparseimage)

I've just created an encrypted 75gb sparseimage for holding my secure data. My previous one of 50gb was nearly full.

I intended to set it to the 256bit encryption level but now cannot remember specifically if I did this, or left it at the default of 128bit.

As I've now copied all the data into it I'm loathed to delete it and recreate it at 256bit when this may already be set.

Is there a way to determine the encryption level used? I've tried the obvious things like cmd-I and get info from within disk util but so far cannot spot where is shows the encryption level (if it does).

Is there a quick way to do it? Maybe via terminal or similar? All help much appreciated, if I cannot resolve it I'll just have to recreate it making sure I have set 256bit. BUt it's over an hour of copying etc.

Thanks,
Richard

Try launching "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and enter a commond of the form:

hdiutil imageinfo /path/to/image.dmg

Substitute the correct path to the image, of course, and knowledge of the password (or access to it via the keychain) will be required to get a result back.

I haven't tested with encrypted sparse bundles, but with a regular encrypted disk image, the encryption level should appear near the beginning of the output.
