Karaoke with Garageband?

Adding to Scott's idea regarding MIDI files, all you would need to do is delete the "Melody" track.

I'm not sure if karaoke music is protected or not, you will just have to give it a try. If you can rip a karaoke CD to AIFF, there will be no problem importing it into GB.

Wouldn't it already be .aiff? I just put in a commercial CD, and opened it directly in the finder, and just dragged a copy of one the .aiff files to the desktop. I'd guess you can just drag that right into GB?

Those karaoke CDs can be imported into GB, but only as a stereo track. You can also search the web for midi files of popular songs, then you can mix and tweak the instruments.

That seems to be incorrect. I just put in a commercial CD, opened it in the finder, and I dragged one of the tracks directly into GB, and had the whole song right there in GB.

All that the ripping does is convert the aiff files that are native on the CD to mp3,acc or whatever you have it set up to import to. When you pop the disk into the machine whether it's a data disk or a music disk it's all data. I've pulled music down off of commercial CDs for sound design projects for years. No problems. (Only problem is the file size, they're huge).

If it is a data CD, yes, but not if it is a music CD. A music CD has to be ripped. But I am not sure the layout of a CD+G disk.

I never have, either, but I have opened a CD from the finder, and it just lists the .aiff files for each song, so I figured it was possible and tried it. 🙂 Always looking for the easier route LOL
