OverDrive Media Trouble Syncing w/iPhone and iTunes

I recently found that my library offers rental audiobooks via OverDrive Media. It's a great idea, however, I keep receiving the following error msg:

"The OverDrive Media Console Transfer Wizard is not able to connect to iTunes. If you intend to transfer content to the iTunes Library and/or a supported Apple device, please note that iTunes v7.6.2.9 (or newer) is required. iTunes is available as a free download from Apple; visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download to download iTunes. If your system meets this requirement, please close any open iTunes dialog boxes then attempt to transfer again."

My version of iTunes: 8.2.1.6
My version of Quicktime: 7.6.2 (there isn't a newer version available)
My version of OverDrive Console: 3.2.0.1

I double checked and my iPhone is set up to manually manage music and videos.

I don't know what else to do. Anyone else having these problems?

PC, Windows Vista

I just tried turning off my home sharing and then sharing in general and neither worked for me. I am emailing Overdrive Media and including this link. It seems like they would have to be the ones to figure out how to get it to work with the new itunes.

Any additional suggestions would be appreciated. I can't fall asleep without my audiobooks 🙂

This was the response I received from Overdrive about how to address the issue with transfering audiobooks (.wma) after the upgrade to Itunes 9. It worked for me 🙂

Note: iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in
your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes.

1. Quit iTunes.

2. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

3. In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.

4. Select iTunes from the list of currently installed programs, then
click Remove.

5. When asked if you would like to remove iTunes, select Yes.

6. After the uninstallation is complete, do not restart if you are
prompted to.

7. If other entries were present for iTunes remove those as well.

8. In Add or Remove Programs, remove any iPod Updater applications that
are listed in the same fashion as iTunes was removed.

9. Restart your computer.

10. After the computer restarts, open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or
whichever disk programs are installed on.

11. Open the Program Files folder.

12. Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when
asked to confirm the deletion. Note: This folder may have already been
deleted if iTunes was successfully removed in steps 1-7.

13. Right-click the iPod folder and select Delete and choose Yes when
asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs
confirmation or permission to continue.

14. Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty
Recycle Bin.

15. Restart your computer.

16. Install the latest version of iTunes from
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download

I tried upgrading to 9.02 and did the whole uninstall and reinstall process and still had the same problem. But then I noticed that in the Overdrive Transfer Wizard, when it prompts you to select the desired portable player and parts to transfer, there was a pull-down option for "Player", and there were other options to select besides the default one, which looked like a nickname for my iPod. I selected a different one, called "Apple device(nickname)" and it worked just like it used to. Yippee!
