Question

HP PSC 1401 All-In-One (help needed to print remotely)

so i tried to set up a remote print on a HP PSC 1401 All-In-One printer but i cant find the driver within the system. i really do not wish to connect the printer directly to my white MacBook running OS X 10.5.8 i just want to remotely print.... any help is appreciated. help that actually works is GREATLY appreciated (and might get a gold star ; ) ).

Does this printer have its own network card? If not, is it connected to another computer or to a router?

For some printers, you need to start off by installing the driver software on the computer and then you can go wireless once the install has been completed.

it has been connected and installed on a pc running xp tablet pc edition. sharing has also been enabled.

Installing the open source HPIJS driver will probably be your solution. Follow the instructions on this page .

This works successfully [OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs] BUT when I originally installed it, it would only print in colour [i.e. it only used the colour cartridge to print, even to print black/white or greyscale]. I solved the problem - I thought - using the advice from http://tech.ifelix.net/1300.html even if my printer was on the "compatibility list".

However, I recently installed the latest version of the OpenPrinting software [http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs#Printers] to find that I have reverted to the colour cartridge only use! I don't seem to be able to resolve the problem this time around. Can anyone help?
