Canon Canoscan 8800F with Snow Leopard?

Anyone know if the Canoscan 8800F will work on SL? I'm not upgrading until I know for sure!

Thanks for the idea re the 8600F. I could duplicate your result. Unfortunately, my ability to scan from within Photoshop just results in a Photoshop crash (Import>8600F). And no real luck scanning anything else with the built-in Canon Toolbox. I can scan perfectly, though, using Apple's built-in Image Capture app, if that helps anyone. All this through wires, btw, not networked. I sent Canon Support an email today, no idea what kind of response THAT will get, if any. I also spoke to Apple this a.m., they had no comment re drivers for Canonscan not playing nicely with 10.6. Other than, contact Canon. (The good news was that my Pixma Pro 9000 works fine so far, and appears to be fully supported.)

i am having trouble with my 5600f. while it is listed as being a supported scanner, MP Navigator will not work. i am getting the following error message while trying to start up the software

"the scanner driver supported by this software is not installed. install it and then retry"

for those that are able to get mp navigator to work, did you do anything special, or just a regular install of snow leopard?

this really burns because i'm under a deadline and need to be able to scan.

I was having the same trouble with my Canon LiDE 200. After receiving the "Failed to find..." message, I reinstalled the current driver from the Canon website. MP Navigator now works, sort of. I can scan one page at a time and save that page; then MP Navigator freezes. If I quit MP Navigator and then reopen it for the next scan, it works. As long as I don't mind scanning like this, a page at a time, until the updated driver comes out in a couple of weeks, I am OK to work. I wouldn't want to make a habit of it, but it's doable as a temporary fix.

My Canoscan 8800 doesn't work under snow leopard either. That is when I'm using the standard Canoscan Photoshop CS4 plugin. However if I use the Silverfast app that came with the scanner everything went fine. Of course this prohibits the possibility of scanning multiple transparencies as this requires the former.

Quote from Mntbikejack:

"Since this thread is specifically about the Canoscan 8800F under Snow Leopard, recommending Vuescan Pro when Vuescan Pro requires the Cannon drivers installed for the 8800F is bad advice. The Cannon drivers will not be available for a few weeks according to the Cannon support site.."

I don't believe that you are correct. I'm pretty sure that is the point of Vuescan, it works when your drivers no longer work. ANY scanner on the Vuescan list will work with any supported OS.

I do use Vuescan with my Canon 8400F scanner. For full disclosure though I should say that I have not yet upgraded. I'm waiting till I'm sure my Brother printer and my Dymo label printer will still work. And even then I might wait till after the first 'fix' to SL is released, just in case 🙂

But I saw that even before the official release of SL, Vuescan claimed to be compatible with 10.6. Nice to see a company ahead of the curve.

I know that this forum is regarding the Canon 8800F, but I have the Canon LiDE 35 and I was able to get it working in Snow Leopard by downloading and installing driver 7.7.2.0X from the canon support site:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDeta ilTabAct&fcategoryid=235&modelid=10241

The post date is incorrectly listed as 7/29/09 but I can confirm it's the same software I had installed over a year ago. Image Capture seems to recognize the TWAIN driver with no problems and I can now scan.

It would seem as though Canon will upgrade drivers soon but in the meantime should I be worried about using this old driver under Snow Leopard? Has anyone else tried this with success?

Thanks

Ironically, Image Capture which worked fine with the Canon 8800F in 10.5.x no longer recognizes the scanner in 10.6. However, Preview which didn't support scanning at all in Leopard now works great with the Canon 8800F in Snow Leopard.

So, if you're looking for a built-in, Apple based solution for the 8800F, you'll have to dump Image Capture and use Preview. Simply select "Import from Scanner" in the "File" menu. I've tried it and it works great.

Odd that Image Capture no longer works when Preview does, but I digress.
