My home Canon Lide 100 works fine after the SL install, without any need for driver updates (though I updated the driver just a few weeks back using the Canon site replacing the one which it came with, from memory).
I'll check my 8600F (at "the office") later today and post back.
I was able to get my Canon CanoScan LiDE 600F to work with Snow Leopard by downloading the driver and Canon Toolbox software from the Canon Website. I had to remove my previous CanoScan Toolbox application manually, though, to get things to work. I also had to manually remove a file in the Library -> Image Capture -> TWAIN Data Sources to get Image Capture to work.
Here's the software versions I used:
LiDE 600F Scanner Driver Ver. 12.13.0 (Mac OS X 10.2/10.3/10.4/10.5)
lide600fosx12130ej4.dmg
12.13.0
5.44 MB
07/29/2009
CanoScan Toolbox Ver. 5.0.1.2 (Mac OS X 10.2/10.3/10.4/10.5)
cstbosx5012ej4.dmg
5.0.1.2
11.09 MB
07/29/2009
I restarted the mac as requested by the installer.
The first time I ran the installers, it seemed that there weren't actually any files updated. So I moved the old CanoScan Toolbax application to the trash and then I ran the CanoScan Toolbox installer again & the scanner would then work from the CanoScan Toolbox application. However, Image Capture still did not show the scanner in the list of Devices.
So, I moved the Library->Image Capture -> TWAIN Data Sources -> CanoScan LIDE 600F.ds to the trash and then reinstalled the driver (and restarted the mac.) Now I see the scanner listed in the Image Capture Device List.
What does not work, still, are the buttons on the scanner itself. When I press a button on the scanner, the CanoScan Toolbox application starts up, but it does not recognize any of the button presses. (The email button should scan to email; the copy button should do an image capture, etc.)
Does anyone have any idea how to get these buttons to work fully?
Canon just posted new, Snow Leopard compatible drivers for this scanner today (9/08/2009). You can find them [here|http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=Supp ortDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=235&modelid=15561#DownloadDetailAct].
I've installed and tested it, and it now allows Image Capture to work with the 8800F once again.
FWIW. VueScan was also updated today for Snow Leopard and Canon scanners, so you now have two 10.6 options for the 8800F, both of which work very well. These in addition to the Canon TWAIN plug in which works great in Photoshop. Of the 3 choices, it has the most options and scanner features.
I just rushed over there and downloaded the new file for my Lide500f. Unfortunately, there was no description of what the file was, just that it was for 10.6 and was uploaded today. Too late, I realized that it was a new version of the uninstall utility. Hrmph. Still no updated driver, and now I have to reinstall.
Thanks, for your note. I should have guessed this myself. I did think to remove the drivers and software, but forgot to remove the TWAIN driver before install. Image Capture working again.
I might have spoken too soon. While it worked originally, when I tried it this morning, Image Capture told me there was "No camera or scanner connected"
I have the same 8600F, no luck scanning with PS (CS4). The Canon utilities are a joke. Image Capture works, but only for scanning paper (it doesn't support negatives or transparencies). Any ideas?
Lide500f drivers are up and working for me now. Even though I had installed the new drivers under 10.5, I had to reinstall both the driver and toolbox before I could scan and use the hardware buttons properly under 10.6.
I had my 8800 working fine under 10.5. I upgraded to 10.6 and installed the new driver. Image capture works as does scanning through preview and both are horrible. The interface is incredibly limited over what was available in 10.5. You can no longer set any profiles options, scaling percentage is not available. You can only set the DPI and the interface does not report the final file size.
Why take away features and information? That makes no sense.
Is there a way to get this older functionality back? Is it just hidden and I am missing something?
