HP Device FAQ

OK, it looks like I need to get this started if nothing else to head off questions. So that being said without further ado here goes. And I will try to keep this thread updated over the coming days.

=====

Question: Where can I find the latest print/scan/fax drivers for my HP device?

Answer: All of the latest drivers as of this point in time are included on the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD. As of right now you will not find anything newer on HP.com. There are three ways to get the drivers, all relatively simple.

1) Install the OS with your device connected - if the installer sees you have an HP printer it will install drivers for your HP printer.

2) Plug your device in and print - if the drivers are not installed, the simple act will prompt Software Update to ask if you'd like to install the drivers.

3) Download the driver package from the Apple download page here. There is really no reason to need this last step unless you run an Installer or Uninstaller from the CD that came with your device or HP.com and things no longer work.

=====

Question: What devices are HP supporting with the In-OS drivers?

Answer: A full list of supported devices can be found here. This list will also tell you if your multi-function device includes drivers for scan and fax (if your device has fax capabilities) or simply print drivers.

=====

Question: My device isn't listed on the list, does that mean my device is not supported?

Answer: No. HP is working on updating the list of unsupported devices so you can tell if you're device won't be supported. For devices that are not on the support on unsupported list, that doesn't mean they will be supported, it means HP is currently investigating if they can support them. As always HP.com is the best place for you to check. And as I know more, I'll post the updates here.

=====

Question: You have lots of answers, are you here officially supporting HP?

Answer: No. I am here helping out because I know OS transitions can be difficult for some people. Hopefully with the In-OS support for printing, scanning, and faxing this transition will be smoother then past ones. That being said, I have a full time job at HP and I am doing this on my own in addition to that job. And as always, any viewpoints expressed are purely my own and in no way should be considered official statements from HP.

Have an HP M2727 multifunction. Been searching for days and think I've arrived at the conclusion HP hasn't supported scanning within MAC OS X 10.6. Am new to the MAC world, so the question is....should I just trash the 2727 I purchased not to long ago, or is apple/hp usually pretty good at providing solutions on a timely basis? I need printing AND scanning.

Thanks,

I have 10.6 and my c4480 all in one printer/scanner works fine -- I downloaded it from the HP website last September. I assume you've been on the HP website? Or it's possible that they don't have a driver for your particular printer.

have you called HP and spoken with a customer service rep? I'm sure they'd be able to tell you whether or not your printer/scanner has a driver for 10.6

I have a hp 1220c and bought snow leopard to improve my mac but now I can only print from bootcamp! Judging from hp site they are trying to make people like me buy a new printer when the one I own works perfectly well. Honestly do they really think I would buy a HP after this hassle!? I will never ever for the rest of my life buy a HP product and I will make every effort to tell as many people I know not to ever buy HP!!! What are they thinking? is there anyway someone can write their own version on a drive to work on snow leopard?

I've found a solution to the hp drivers problems.
Download all 3 items then restart, plug in your printer, system preferences, printer and faxes, add a new printer with the +icon on the bottom right corner, select your printer and from the drop down menu the new printer driver that have now been installed.

Changing from Leo to Snow Leopard blew the existing printer drivers. After dozens of hours I found a way to get usable photo prints on the Epson with the Gutenprint driver. Leopard prints on photo paper were better.

While the HP Color Laserjet 2600 produced remarkable photo quality with Leopard, the prints under Snow are much too dark. I tried the internet utility to change color densities etc., it did not help. I have to strongly lighten up any photo in photoshop before printing it. Before I uninstalled any HP traces before installing the new drivers - which also came late from apple. A real pain in the a....

Yes, firmware issue "fixed" ages ago. If you search the HP forums there is an alternative firmware version you can install. I think it's effectively a downgrade, but the printer appears to work flawlessly for me.

If you have trouble finding it (CM2320fxi FWUpdate-20090209.exe) let me know, I'll try to get it to you. In fact, forget that... I put it here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/65130/CM2320fxiFWUpdate-20090209.exe

Hi all!

If you updated your printer driver (after upgrading to Snow Leopard or just because HP launched a new driver), I believe I have found a way to revert to the older driver. I'm not sure if it works for everyone, but at least it works for me.

Anyway, I have a M1005 MFP and it suddenly lost its ability to print in econo mode and manual duplex after upgrading the driver. Just a while ago I accidentally reset the printing system and managed to install the printer with the old driver.

Here's how:

- First, do not unplug and switch off the printer. Leave it connect and running.
- Proceed to System Preferences > Print & Fax
- Uninstall the printer (select the printer in the left column, click the "-" at the bottom of the column).
- Now click on the "+" beside the "-" to install your printer
- Wait for your printer to appear in the new window and select it.
- Look down and you'll see a pull-down menu that says "Print Using". Select the older driver (mine has HP LaserJet M1005, 1.2.0.224 and HP LaserJet M1005. The "HP LaserJet M1005" is the older driver.
Note: The printer remains plugged in and running throughout the whole procedure.

And that's it! Now you'll get back your duplex (Manuel) printing capability and the ability to print in EconoMode to save on toner!

Note that it has some drawbacks. Obviously, rolling back onto older driver would result in the old problems coming back. For example, the printer menus will not appear correctly in most applications (e.g. Marina Write).

My work around for this is to save several commonly used settings via MS Word (such as Econo-600dpi mode). This allows me to print in econo-600 mode when the option is not available from the menu.

I hope it helped.

Hello.

Wow. 82 pages. I have to admit I haven't read ALL of the pages (so I apologize if this issue has been resolved -- in fact I'm hoping it has) but I did a 'find' for Officejet 5160 on quite a few of the pages.

My printer function on my Officejet 5160 is working but Snow Leopard is not recognizing the scanner functions.

On page 33, Orion Aldrich mentioned s/he found a fix, but after following their instructions, I'm still without my scanner.

Any help would be super!

Thanks,
Kickpedal
