Xerox Color 6120 Laser Printer a no go.

Mac OS X 10.6 supports driver download on demand. (How else did you think they saves 7GB of space??). So very few are on your disk, but are available on demand when you add your printer.

Unfortunately, the 6120 is not listed in:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669

So, here is a thought. Download manually the Apple Provided Xerox drivers:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/XeroxPrinter_Drivers_for_Mac_OS_X_v106

Then try picking the 6130 when you setup the device.

Arrgh, I have the same problem. So much for "Snow Leopard makes sure you always have the most up-to-date driver so you can get the most from your printer..." I didn't expect it make my printer not work.

I was able to print by adding the printer, but using generic postscript drivers, not the real one, but the prints look a bit washed out on color...

Manually set the your printer to use the 6130 driver - That worked for me...

Also, try updating your firmware. The Xerox site has an 8/29/2009 update (File name - Phaser 6120p2.PS) that adds support for Bonjour and Intel based Macs. Xerox describes the update as follows:

4. Click on the [File Download] link in the list of options on the left side of the window.
5. Click on the [Browse] button. The File Open window will be displayed.
6. Browse to the location in which the firmware upgrade file was extracted - Phaser 6120p2.ps file.
7. Click on the [Blue] button to transmit the firmware upgrade to the printer. This button is not labeled, but it looks like a Start button. The button is located below File Download.

I have a 6120 that works with the 6130 driver provided that USB is used since Bonjour no longer functions. I also lost the second paper tray I have installed on mine as the 6130 does not appear to offer that option. In the end, I found the generic driver (4) solved my USB printing by offering multiple paper feed options. I just wish I could get Bonjour up and running.

How did you manually install the 6130 for the 6120.. is it the instructs below.. i really need this, because i used my 6120 as a network printer and now it is no responding. it only works as B&W via Bonjour.

any help would help!!

I looked all over the Xerox site for the firmware update that ChipGeorge mentioned (Phaser 6120p2.PS) but couldn't find it. A link would be helpful if anyone here managed to snag it.

Try there, but the firmware for the 6120 is not so new as the one for the 6130... 6/10/07 for the 6120

Update: My problem was that I could not print a color image on my Phaser 6120n. I just reinstalled using the JetDirect option mentioned above and all is well again. The usual fine images I am used to.

Thanks, but the link you gave is not for the file ChipGeorge referenced in his post. Your link points to "6120FW213_PS.zip", which is firmware from 2007. The file mentioned by ChipGeorge is "Phaser 6120p2.PS.zip", and he says this was dated August 29, 2009.

Also, what is the "jetDirect" option you referred to in your post? I don't see that talked about anywhere in this thread.

Go to the Print & Fax preference pane and click the + to add a printer. Then JetDirect will be in the first popup menu. Choose it and enter your printers IP address. It will verify the printer and at the bottom it will choose a driver for you but you can change that if you like. Mine chose a generic postscript driver. Click add and then choose the new printer in the list to be the default printer. At this point I printed a big image out of graphic converter (1485x1000 16.7 million colors) and it printed fine.

As for the firmware it was the only one I could find and I mentioned that it was old..

I'm wondering if Snow Leopard will see the Phaser 6120 Leopard driver if I reinstall it? I'm not near my printer right now, but when I get to it I'll test to see if the combination of the jetDirect connection method and the Phaser 6120 Leopard-compliant driver will work to restore full functionality.

If anyone tries this before I do, could you please let us know?

Doesn't seem to. But I and several others I read about had the Xerox Leopard driver stop working at 10.5.7
