Xerox Color 6120 Laser Printer a no go.

Everything was going so well and now it appears that I can not use my Xerox 6120. It didn't set it up automatically and even went back and loaded all the Printer Drivers and there is almost none for any Xerox Phaser printer. I went a found an old .gz file and put that in the PPD library and it says it was not installed correctly. Has anyone had any luck with Xerox network printers?

My Phaser 6120 works over the network from 10.6 clients when using the driver from this page:

http://www.openprinting.org/showprinter.cgi?recnum=Xerox-Phaser6120

It appears that all options are supported (though I don't have a duplexer or hard disk attachment to test), supply levels are properly reported.

Listed next to "Recommended Driver" chose "Custom PPD". Save this file somewhere (if prompted *do not* append the .txt extension). When adding the printer select "Other" as the type and then browse to the file you downloaded from the above site.

Direct link to the .PPD file:

I have tried both 6120 approaches, the one referred to on the openprinting.org page and the one from the Xerox site. They both load and I can access the printers using a web browser but neither of them will print from my computer. They pause immediately regardless of what I print. I called Xerox for help and they won't help me because I have an airport network! Great support.

Before I go off and buy 2 new printers (one home and one office), does anyone have any ideas beyond the ones listed.

I've experienced the same thing too. If you do it from bonjour, it will spew out garbage. I've tried and install it manually by adding IP printer and selected HPJetdirect. In the bottom "Print Using" select the new snow leopard phaser 6120 beta driver. Add the printer and try printing a page, that should fix it and the printer won't spew out garbage codes anymore. My Phaser 6120 is back on the job like before now. Hope this helps.

Howard.

To anyone still following this thread, I finally gave up on getting the 6120 to work over the network. I tried everything but with toner getting low anyway, I decided to buy another printer rather than continue with this and spend another $200 to $300 dollars on toner. It shouldn't come as a surprise that I did not buy another Phaser. I did get a Lexmark 543 at Staples for $299. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is not true Adobe Postscript but emulation. The 543 prints better than the 6120, is faster, has the same 128MB of RAM and will auto duplex. It is also much quieter, supplies are cheaper and easier to change.
