AT&T 3G Option wireless USB and globetrotter connect

Try uninstalling the Globetrotter software and then reinstall. That's what I had to do with my Sierra Wireless. The software ran but it wouldn't connect. Mine is working just fine on 3G after the uninstall reinstall. Good Luck

No but sometimes doing an uninstall then reinstall fixes all kinds of problems for all different types of programs.

Don't know what you mean by "using with SL" but my hardware is a Sierra Wireless Aircard 875U and my software is Sierra Watcher Ver 2.0.6. When I run it the 3G indicator is active and I see no speed difference. This particular hardware is no longer made.

I have the Option GT Max card (express 34 not USB) on AT&T. I stopped using the vendor software under Leopard and simply selected my card and entered my information in the Network preferences panel. This actually works very well and continues to work under Snow Leopard.

I use the following settings:
isp.cingular for the account name.
leave the password field blank.
Option N.V. as the vendor on the Advanced tab, WWAN sub tab.
GSM as the Model on the Advanced tab, WWAN sub tab.
ISP.CINGULAR as the APN on the Advanced tab, WWAN sub tab.
1 as the CID on the Advanced tab, WWAN sub tab.

For whatever reason, these settings changed to the following when I installed Snow Leopard but I can still connect.

Apple as the vendor on the Advanced tab, WWAN sub tab.
Apple modem (v.32) as the Model on the Advanced tab, WWAN sub tab.

You may try this if you haven't already. Good luck

ive got option icon 225 and using globetrotter on MacOs 10.6 and after install globetrotter application with drivers when i plugin the modem my system is crushing down. have u got any ideas how to makes working installation??

Same here with the Option iCON 7.2.
Launch2net which I use to connect, works. As soon I plug in the iCON the screen goes dark and a message appears telling me in several languages that I need to restart my system by holding down the On/Off switch.

I guess the drivers need to be updated by Option. Will they do that?

Question: Where in my system do I find the drivers to delete them manually?

Yes, same problem here. I'm using 10.6 with ICON 225 and the last software update from Option. But seems it doesn't work with SL. 😟

After upgrade to 10.6, just installed again the modem software, after plug the usb modem the system shut down 😟

Thanks for the suggestion on the Option GT Max card. I checked and I have these settings already; however, it is listed under Globetrotter Modem. Does this indicate that it is the vendor software? Also, whenever I insert my laptop card, an icon appears in the menu bar saying that my sim card is locked and needs a pin number to unlock. Have you or anyone else experience this.

I am kind of disappointed that Apple did not anticipate that some of its customers use Laptop Connect Cards in their everyday business and cannot really afford the down time.

Same problem in Spain, as Jazztel suplies the last but ancient globetrotter malware inside their option icon 7.2. Really sad...

My card also appears on the left-hand side of the Preferences window as "Globetrotter modem".

After posting my original message, I noticed (in Network Preferences) that there were now two entries for my Globetrotter modem. I deleted the newest entry (like and idiot) and was then unable to connect. Right-clicking on the icon that appears at the top of the screen (the bar graph that shows signal strength) showed "AT&T 3G: Not Configured" as the top entry in the drop-down menu and it was disabled. Ultimately, I removed my laptop connect card and deleted the remaining Globetrotter modem entry from the Network Preferences panel. I then reinserted the card and waited a few moments for Network Preferences to recognize and then configure the card. Right-clicking on the bar graph menu now showed "AT&T 3G: Disconnected" as the top entry in the drop-down menu and it was still disabled. I changed the Account Name from "ISP@CINGULARGPRS" (the default value that I heard long ago results in slower speeds) to "ISP@CINGULAR". I deleted the default password as well. I was then able to connect.

I haven't seen a message about a locked SIM card nor have I been prompted for a PIN. Sorry.

If you haven't already done so, I would recommend uninstalling any third-party software related to the card - I haven't used any since Leopard was released and it may be causing a conflict. I would then remove the card, delete all of the Globetrotter modem entries in Network Preferences, reinsert the card and let Snow Leopard configure the card. Maybe they changed something and it simply needs to be reinstalled for Snow Leopard. Sounds like it couldn't hurt to try it at this point.

I hope it works out for you. I know firsthand how frustrating this can be.
