Snow Leopard - problems with portable lineup fans/heat

It seems many models in Apples portable lineup have an issue with fans/heat and Snow Leopard. I'm starting this thread to try and collect data on which models/revisions to see if we can find some root cause. Mods - I felt this deserved splitting from the main Q&A as a hunt around the usual suspect forums finds a lot of people having the same issue. Hope that's OK.

On other forums I have seen reports of it affecting MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs, and one mention of a Mini. Mine is a MacBook.

My fans are constantly at 6200rpm on a MacBook White 2.16 Core 2 Duo with 2Gb RAM. CPU temp is up at just shy of 70 degrees, CPU usage is below 50% and RAM usage shows over 25% free.

Maybe portable users could add their own forms here? We need to see if this is a problem with SL (which I think it is) or particular hardware.

I have the same issue, intense heat and fan working all the time. Also auto wake up. It happens when i play a very simple video.
It happens with Firefox playing streaming video in youtube or other streaming website. I looked into the system log and unfortunately i found nothing valuable.
I suggest to look into the Kernel Log...
See you.

ok so here's a possible fix(ish):

i reinstalled 10.6 off the install disk, except i booted off the disk first; did a permission repair then reupgrade. the fan speed has returned to normal, as well as the fan speed while using QT X or QT 7 pro. Flash and video through both firefox and safari still makes the heat/fan speeds go up, but at a noticeable decrees in noise and though my macbook still heats up it no longer feels hotter than an ez-bake oven. even hd tv shows in iTunes, viewed on an external lcd monitor, which had caused a slew of other heat/fan noise issues all its own seems to have improved considerably. I'm watching stargate u. ep 3 in hd and though i can hear the fans and feel the heat it's like it used to be before 10.6 install. hope this helps, let me know...

Affected : YES !!

At startup temperature rises to 58-60 ° C .

After a few minutes surfing with Safari it goes up to 90-98 °C.
Watching a video online ....and my MBP turns into a cooking plate with
105-113 °C !!
After 115°C it shuts down !!

Never had that before installing Snow Leopard.

And in addition : the spinning wheel is back and turns over and over !

I was always ( 6 years) a real happy Mac user but this new OS takes every pleasure away!

I thought this OS should make the Intel Mac turn better & faster....
Maybe this was meant for Quad Core ??

I'd just like to know that Apple is aware and "taming" his new big-cat !

Please !!!

I have 2 Intel MacBooks with the problem of much less battery since Snow Leopard. Can anyone confirm that going back to Leopard makes you battery last longer again?

As for those with hot running processors. Only one of our MacBooks suffers from that, and the culprit is generally Flash. The interesting bit is that Adobe have released a new beta that changes things: no more screaming fans when watching YouTube and other Flash movies.
