iDisk gives error "Your iDisk is unavailable"

Ever since I installed Snow Leopard, my iDisk has been a problem. If I simply click on iDisk from Finder I get this message:

*Your iDisk is unavailable.*
Make sure you are logged in to your MobileMe account, and then try again to access your iDisk.

Well, I made sure I was logged into mobileme from system preferences. I signed out, signed in, reset sync services from mobileme preferences. And did this command line in Terminal:

/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full

Nothing really seemed to work. Also went to the iDisk tab in mobileme preferences, and it said iDisk Sync:Off, so I clicked on Start, and it gives me the following error:

*File Sync*
Unable to turn on iDisk syncing. Please try again later.

I'm fresh out of options. If anyone can help.

I was having the same problem. I finally logged into my .Mac account via the web and changed my password. Then, in System Prefs—> MobileMe—> Account, I logged out and back in again with the new password. That set me straight. Read elsewhere that this snafu could have been caused by a recent system update. I've been using this Mac and system version AND have been successfully accessing my iDisk all along. An update, I suppose, could be to blame... Hope this fix will work for some of you! Good luck.

forestlaurel - thanks for the suggestion - I have tried it,

1. logged off in preferences
2. logged in over the net
3. changed the password
4. logged out over the the net
5. logged back in in preferences using the new password

6. tried to open idisk in finder - this time it actually asked me for a username and password - which I duely filled in - then it just repeatedly told me my user name or password were incorrect. After a couple of attempts it reverted to telling me idisk was unavailable...

still need a solution... considering virgin sacrifice (or at least one of the dogs anyway!) desperation is setting in

I just upgraded to SL. All went fine on the MacBook Air. But on my PowerBook Pro 17" I had difficulties.

First I was asked whether I wanted to trash my old iDisk. In contrast to the MacBook Air I answered, no, don't trash. Perhaps that caused the problem.

First, I've seen the iDisk on the desktop, but the two sync circles had a dot in the centre and sync date showed the last sync took place before the SL upgrade. I tried to force a sync and got only the following error message "Your iDisk can't be synchronized at this time. An error occurred while synchronizing your iDisk (error code 14)." Reboot did not help.

Then I stopped iDisk syncing in System Preferences. That worked fine. But I could no longer start it. I always got the error message "File Sync - Unable to turn on iDisk syncing. Please try again later." Rebooting did not help.

Then I read about this thread and trashed '~/Library/FileSync' and rebooted the machine. That helped. I could start iDisk syncing again.

Thanks for the help offered here.

Try this: run Keychain Access, search for and delete any and all stored passwords relating to the term "iDisk" (use the search function in Keychain Access--they'll be obvious--don't delete all your passwords in toto!). As many have stated in this thread, when asked for your username/password the next time you attempt to mount the iDisk, use your full email address w/domain name (johndoe@mac.com), and choose to store that password in your keychain.

I suspect it's a combination of old passwords and/or conflicting usernames (with and without the domain name) that hoses up the works, which would be consistent with machines that have been upgraded over the years. Maybe people like me who cling to "@mac.com" are affected, too.

The only way I have found to access my idisk is to:
(1) go to System Preferences > MobileMe > Sign Out
(2) sign in again userid@me.com
(3) Finder > Go > idisk > my idisk
(4) logon as userid@mac.com
Then everything is fine until the next reboot and I have to do it all over again.
I've tried deleting the keychain entries for idisk, but to no avail.

Apple guys...This is a pain in the *
Please fix it!

awesome, thank you so much for this tip!

i have been unable to access my iDisk from Finder for a long time from my MacBook Pro. i was able to access it from my girlfriend's MacBook, via Finder, but not my own. i was totally mystified, tried a lot of suggestions, none worked and I was on the verge of calling Apple (can't remember the last time I'd given up on something that badly).

this totally worked, and the trick was: entering my username with my complete email address.

bizarre, but all is well again.
