Can't create Network with Airport

Before installing Snow Leopard I could create a network with my mac mini's airport so I could share the ethernet connection but since I installed Snow Leopard, when I try to create a Network the message "Can't create a computer to computer network" appears in the screen.

Does this happen to anyone else?
Does anyone know the way to solve it?

Thanks for the help

When I first installed 10.6.0 OS X my Airport setup worked fine for several days, then suddenly it stopped. 10.6.1 did NOT fix the flaw. The airport card is recognized, and the base station (A1143) is recognized, but there is no longer any communication. HOWEVER, my NON-intel G5 still communicates through the same base station. This is a really serious OS FLAW and Apple had better fix it soon before Microsoft discovers it and makes a commercial out of it.

Here's my "me too" description:
My airport network stopped working with 10.6.1 (whereas it worked for the few days I had 10.6 installed before the upgrade and 10.5.x before that).
I do get an up-arrow in the airport menu icon and my wife's vista laptop sees the network, but neither it nor our iPod touches are able to go on the internet once connected to my iMac.
At least, I got the printer working again with the latest software update so it's not all negative.

Similar probs to everyone else, re Internet Sharing not working - other devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, MacBook Pro) can all see the network made by my iMac (connected via ethernet to modem/router), but they can't see the internet.

One little snippet of info which might mean something to someone???

When I ran Network Diagnostics on my MacBook Pro, it initially told me my iMac's Airport Network needed a password (which I've never set, as we live a long way from any other house). I initially thought "aha!", and tried setting a password on the iMac and entering same on MacBook & iPhone, but no joy. Both devices went through the password entry in order to connect, and the result was the same - supposedly connected but can't see the internet.

Very frustrating and disappointing from good old Apple.....

New info.
I tried connecting the mini to a shared internet connection from my MBP. Mini found the network and connected with no problem. When the connection was still there, I tried to create the computer to computer network and it worked no errors, I also tried turning on internet sharing and it worked to. The computer to computer logo appeared and internet sharing arrow also and I normally connected my iphone and reverse the MBP to the mini.
BUT - the second I turned the airport off and wanted to start internet sharing, or computer to computer network the cant create network error appeared again and the sharing arrow isn't launching.

Also tried safe mode - but in safe mode my air port card isn't installed ??????

Console displays this when the internet sharing is turned on:

Strange, but I had share internet via Airport briefly functional for a while on my Macbook Pro, and for no apparent reason. I had not changed preferences or anything else, and just thought I would give it a try, and it worked. After the next restart, it's broken again. Same as usual, I can create sharing in the associated prefs pane, but it never starts up and is not indicated as such in the Airport icon located in the menu bar.

Does anyone else have an update on this? It's really, really annoying!

Trashed com.apple.InternetSharing.plist - restarted - no luck.
The system.log reports this - can anyone help ????????

I've been having the same problems as everyone else here. Trying to share internet connection from my ethernet wired iMac to my MacBook and my iPhone. Tried all the workarounds, deleting preference file, changing setting, re-starting multiple times, etc., but nothing works, or lasts very long.

This week, I finally talked with AppleCare for over an hour. All their suggestions (again trashing preferences, changing settings, etc.) failed, as well. The AppleCare person then put me on hold to speak to an engineer, who told her that Snow Leopard no longer supports Internet Sharing as of 10.6.1.

Not willing to accept that answer, I had them set up an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar for me, and after chatting with the Genius for a while, he also confirmed that Internet Sharing is no longer supported under Snow Leopard. Apparently, there were many hardware issues that the engineers decided to circumvent, and so did not include support for Internet Sharing with the internal airport in Macs. They said that the Airport it is intended to receive, not to send a signals! Yet, it worked fine, doing just that, under Tiger and Leopard! The only fix he could offer was to wipe my drive and take me back to 10.5, which I declined.

So, there you have it. According to a rep at AppleCare, an engineer she spoke to, and the guy at the Genius Bar, Apple no longer officially supports Internet Sharing in Snow Leopard.

However, both the guy at the Genius Bar and the lady at AppleCare inferred that Apple "may" release another update to fix this issue, if they get enough complaints and bug reports. Sigh...

This worked for me (uMBP sharing to iPhone)

How to share your internet connection via AirPort on Snow Leopard 10.6.1:
Go to System Preferences. Select Network. Take note of the IP address of your internet connection. (Ethernet, 3G modem, whatever you're using)
From the list of network interfaces, select AirPort. Click the Advanced button. Click on the TCP/IP tab.
Configure your IPv4 by selecting “Using DHCP with manual address” from the dropdown list.
Input an IP address similar to your internet connection’s IP address. example: If your ISP’s IP is 10.150.0.1, you can input 10.150.254.254 in the IPv4 address field. Then click OK. Click Apply.
Return to System Preferences. Click Sharing. From the available services, select Internet Sharing.
Select the internet connection you want to share, then click on the check box near AirPort. After selecting AirPort, turn on your internet sharing by clicking the check box near Internet Sharing. Click Start.

I'm guessing that when I get back to an Airport network I'll have to revert to DHCP, but's that's no biggy so long as I remember!

nice solution bud, but i'd rather have what i had before, something that worked, simply.

i use iPhoneModem with my iPhone 3G and all was great until this update, now the makers of iPhoneModem are trying to fix the problem, which they nearly did as fas as i can make out, but the problem of not being able to create an adhoc network is a major stumbling block i think. i need the functionality to manage a couple of small networks remotely (which is surprisingly usable on an iPhone screen).

comin you applettes, you're usually on the ball with these things, please, please, please put it back the way it was in the next update or even a maintenance update...ppppwwweeeeeeezzzzz

:o)

That cant be right - or can it ????

Why is there a sharing option in the system preferences pane, why do other ppl have the option still working ?????
Like me on my MBP17".
I think they cant find out the problem so that's why they said that to you.

No that can't be right. What outrageous misinformation. Please be "helpful" somewhere else, ActIIsc2.

I find this works for me if I can see other networks in my scan list first. However, if it powers off or sleeps, the problem returns.

This is just a bug. I hope it's fixed soon.
