Recording Level Grayed Out??

I've been using GB for a while and have never had this problem...

I plug my guitar into the line-in as I always do, but today the recording level is grayed out and I cannot get any input volume into the mac. I checked the sound control panel, and the 'digital in built-in audio' is selected, but I can't hear anything... Usually I have control of the input level in teh control panel - but now there's nothing! Anyone have any ideas?? I'm stumped!

Dual 1.5 G5 Tower, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I found the answer!! dannydunno solved it in the GB09 forum, and here it is, in case anyone else is enjoying this issue at the moment of inspiration:

go to Applications>Utilities>Audio Midi Set up>change the input source there to line in - if the option drop down table has it! Then in GB prefs change it to System Settings.
