Mac firewall blocks DHCP server and can't get IP address...why?

My situation is similar to a previous post.

I had a bad display card and my system board was replaced. I have had my MBP and my network in my house setup for over a year with no issues. When I get back home with my replaced system board I can't get an IP address. I can connect fine either wirelessly or wired but the MBP just self-assigns an IP address. I tried everything, rebooted everything, really fiddled and couldn't get it to get an IP address. The iMac sitting next to me had no issues and both computers where all up to date. The two other PC's in my house and ATV had no issues either...just my MBP. I even entered the network settings manually...no luck...no internet.

Hmmm. So I called tech support...they had me do some silly stuff and no luck. They told me to go back to the store. So I did...they weren't very happy that I didn't have an appt but I had just been there and now I can't connect. The tech came out...who was very nice. We booted and wallah...connected to their wireless network no issues. Came home and I was now connecting no problem. Ok...must be Mac gremlins playing a joke on me. However, it still happens.

I did some more digging and discovered that the Mac firewall, which was set to the most strict settings (as it always was) was blocking the DHCP server...my Airport Extreme. I opened up the firewall and, like magic, I get an IP address and internet.

So for all those experts out there that know way more than me...why/how could this be happening. Obviously it has something to do with the system board being replaced as it did for the previous poster...Jennipops.

At first I thought there was something weird with VMware because there was one setting on my firewall that said block and when I opened that I got an IP address. However, my issue still happens and that setting is still open. I have to, basically, disable my firewall to get an IP address.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike
