T-Mobile USB Dongle Crashes Kernel

Hi, I have a t-mobile(UK) usb mobile broadband stick that used to work fine with Leopard. However, when I insert the stick into my upgraded MacBook running SL, I get a grey screen asking me to reboot. I uninstalled the software, put the stick back in (no crash). When I tried to reinstall, it threw an error saying the software couldn't be installed.

The macbook crashes when I insert the stick again. Any ideas?

Drivers released for Option 431 (tmobile 530) and other models, I have not been able to get it to connect though. Anyone any idea what the settings are for t-mobile using option 431?

Driver says it works on these other models as well:
GT Express 421
• GT Express 441
• GT Express 442
• Icon 401
• Icon 411
• Icon 431
• Icon 451
• Icon 452
• Icon 461
• Icon 505
• Icon 505 M
• Icon 509 M

Same for me, I downloaded the drivers, installed them. Rebooted. Plugged in the USB modem. But that's it. It recoginzed the Options network devices again in System Preferences -- Network but that's it. It doesn't even recognize the internal memory of the stick so that you could try and install the web'n'walk manager only.

So far no luck... 😟

Right, I think I got it working:

After installing the new drivers, which you can download from http://www.option.com/en/support/software-download/usb-modems/icon431/, plugin in your USB modem. Then go to System Preferences -- Network. It will prompt you that new network devices have been found. Confirm the dialog and then in the main window, click 'Apply'. Now, remove all new GI41x network devices from your current location profile except GI41x Modem.

Select the GI41x Modem and then open the Advanced options dialog. There, on the Modem tab, select 'Generic' as vendor and 'GPRS (GSM/3G)' as model. So for T-Mobile UK, for APN specify 'general.t-mobile.uk'. Confirm the dialog with ok. Then on the main one, type in, as previously mentioned the *99# as telephone number. Apply the changes then then click connect. That should do the trick.

It's important to use the 'GI41x Modem' and not as mentioned in other posts the 'GI41x Diag' network device.

Good luck.

Orange have told me that their fix will not be available before Monday 14th !!!!

I have to say that doesn't surprise me. There's no change to their website (not even any note warning people of the issues).

I've replied to the e-mail I received from them requesting an update and asking for a credit to my account. Considering the issues in this thread regarding both Orange and T-Mobile, I wonder if anyone else is as filled with confidence as I am concerning their merger...

After a long fight T-Mobile have agreed to suspend my T-mobile pay monthly account
at no cost to me
until the new software for the 530 broadband dongle is released
which is sort of good news
but they say it could be up to two months before a new OS X 10.6 software upgrade is available

If you are fighting with T-mobile point them to this link

they cannot suspend one account and not others

hopefully it will be fixed before the two months
and we can all be happy again
