iPhoto will not recognize camera

For some reason, iPhoto is suddenly no longer recognizing my camera. (Canon PowerShot.) I haven't done any upgrading or changing to the app, or to the camera that I know of, but as of yesterday it simply cannot see my camera. Based on advice on these forums, I tried using Image Capture, and it doesn't see my camera, either. I have tried two different USB cables with the same result. Please help me download my pictures.

Hi there...
I have the same problem. I have a Canon PowerShot SD880 IS. I'm using a ScanDisk SDHC 8BG card. When I plug in the camera and open iTunes, it's not recognized. I also have a card reader, but same thing - no joy. So I tested both the camera and my card reader with the memory card that came with the camera, a Canon SDC-32M... Works perfectly. When I plug the Canon card into the card reader, it shows up on the desk top instantly, and when it's in the camera, iPhoto recognizes the camera.

So I guess it's pretty obvious that the ScanDisk memory Card is shot, but just to be thorough, I tested both cards in my HP C6180 Printer. The HP recognizes the Canon card, but says there's a fault on the ScanDisk card - Bummer, I just came back from vacation and have 372 photos on that card, (which still works fine in the camera by the way - the camera is still able to record to the card).

Also, just FYI, I have been using my camera with this ScanDisk card and iTunes for months with now. I guess it just failed????

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums

a couple of things

if you have photos you want download media recover - http://www.mediarecover.com/ - the trial version will tell you what it can recover - you have to purchase to actually recover the photos

After you get what you want off the card put it in your camera and use the camera format command to reformat the card - this may save it

The recommended workflow is to import your photos (card reader recommended - camera ok) and do not have iPhoto delete them - dismount your card and be sure iPhoto is happy with the photos and then use the camera to format the card deleting all photos and renewing the format each use

I have the same problem with my Canon Powershot DS850 after recent update of IPhoto (ver. 7.1.5 iPhoto '08). Camera is recognized in system profiler. Iphoto recognizes card reader, and files names, but does not display photos from card reader. Photos can be imported to computer from Image Capture. Thinking this might be a problem with the update, I emailed Apple, but have not seen a new update.

I am also experiencing the same issues. I have been using iPhoto with my Canon Powershot SD750 for 2 years and iPhoto has all of sudden stopped recognizing my camera. I last download pics in late Set and now nothing. Camera is in System profiler, but not available from image capture. Any ideas from anyone???? This is just strange.
