Vectorworks 2008 & 10.6

Is anyone using Vectorworks 2008 on Snow Leopard?

I am awaiting delivery of SL, but need to use VW 2008.

The compatibility list on snowleopard.wikidot.com shows it not being compatible and wont be supported (confirmed by Nemetschek website tho' VW 2009 will receive a patch soon).

However I have seen a number of reports that VW 2008 (and earlier) is able to run on SL without any problems.

Is anybody able to confirm this?

Technical Bulletin
Vectorworks 2009 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v.10.6) Stability Concerns

As many of you know, Apple will be releasing Snow Leopard on August 28, 2009. And as many of our customers work on a Mac platform, the release of Snow Leopard naturally brings up questions of compatibility.
Understanding that for the majority of our customer base, our software is a key component of their work flow, our CTO, Dr. Biplab Sarkar, does not recommend running Vectorworks 2009 (Service Pack 4 or earlier) on Snow Leopard at this point in time. Dr. Sarkar and his team are already in process, developing a version of Vectorworks 2009 that will be fully compatible with Snow Leopard and free to all Vectorworks 2009 users. Expect to hear notice of this version availability in early November, 2009. And, if you’re not already subscribed to our monthly e-Dispatch newsletter, please subscribe now so that you’ll get the announcement. http://www.nemetschek.net/community/edisp_subscribe.php
For those customers with software versions earlier than Vectorworks 2009, please note we do not have plans to update these older versions to support Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v.10.6).
Thank you for your understanding and patience. If you wish to read a more detailed technical explanation of the current stability issues with Snow Leopard, you’ll find that information on our ever-growing Vectorworks Knowledge Base site: Click Here If you wish to be kept abreast of all our latest updates on the Vectorworks Knowledge Base, you can subscribe to the feed of new posts there.

Macro

I had heard VW 2008 might work so over the weekend I installed SL with all the updates and then tried to start up VW2008. But this put up a message saying I needed to install a "plugin" that I've never needed before, and sent me to an anti-piracy website. (I need hardly add that my copy of VW2008 is legitimate and not pirated).

So at that website I downloaded the requisite plugin and tried to install it, but at about 90% through the installation process I got a message saying that it could not be installed and that I should contact the manufacturer of the software.

%çò!;###¶°§ !!!!

So at least until November I can't install and use Snow Leopard because I absolutely need VectorWorks.

That's a shame, because everything else works fine, including all my other applications, most of which are a lot older than VectorWorks 2008.

😟

Greetings..

What follows is just my 2cents on this VW2008 situation...

Well YMMV but I've been using VW2008 under Snow Leopard for a couple of weeks now off and on. 3D drawings with renderworks rendering and so far I haven't found any obvious bugs. Seems to be pretty fast as well. I don't make a living using the tool and If I did I'd probably have waited but so far so good. Please do not blast me if you upgrade on a mission critical project and it fails on you.

I'd sure like to hear from anyone who has run into any real bugs running VW2008 under Snow Leopard so that I can avoid using any features that might break things. So far the only bad things I've heard are people parroting the official statement regarding VW2008.

OK this is freaky.. I was about to comment on how badly VW 9.5 broke for me when I think it was Leopard or Tiger came out, cant remember. It just wouldn't even render an image at all. All kind of a reversed graphics kind of thing with a hash fill for a background. For kicks I just tried launching it under Snow Leopard and it's working again. This is very unexpected and I have to admit I've done little with it to see how well it works.

All that said VW2008 is WAY better than 9.5 so why look back, but if you have never upgraded you may want to give that a try as well.. Of course it's running under Rosetta and that may be why it works at all.

VW2008 runs native 32 bit of course..

Enjoy..

Hi Tom...

Sorry about the delayed response but I didn't get any notice that there was a response to my posting. Thought I'd set that somewhere.

Anyway are you maybe using a European copy? I don't know if there is different licensing or not but there is no licensing required past the large codes you enter when you first load a license here in the US. So no I don't get any messages as you indicate and so far it's worked very well. I still haven't seen any postings of anyone who actually has a problem with VW2008 under 10.6, well except your message regarding the licensing demon. Never heard of this additional software it sounds strange to me.

Hope that helps.

I have loaded vw2008 onto my new imac (10.6.2). It works fine, is fast, but I have encountered a glitch: I cannot export my files. typically, I export a .dxf to the desktop, and then I email it to someone who's using autocad. apple tech support tried to help me work it out, but we were unsuccessful. I am not sure what to do accept to to the exporting on my old mac (Tiger 10.5).

you can export a dwg from vectorworks 2008, the problem is that it doesn't actually put the file where you tell it, or what you call it. it exports it to a subfolder of the vectorworks folder in the hd/library (or via applications and show contents). its annoying - i don't get why it exports it there all the time, but you can at least go and retrieve it if you need to export a vw2008 file.
