Chat window stays open even after i log off

Hi,

Is the Save Transcripts sub item about the number of Chats to Show still ticked ?

In theory this should not work. However it may pay to turn Transcripts ON tand deselect the "In new Chat Window ...." item and then turn Off Saved Transcripts again.

Thanks for your response. Nothing is ticked, and I've turned everything on and off just to make sure. Are you saying that you are not actually experiencing this behavior?

Just to be completely clear, here are the steps to recreate:
1. Launch iChat
2. Open a chat with someone and send at least 1 message
3. Quit iChat using command-Q without manually closing the chat window
4. Relaunch iChat
5. At this time, a chat window with the someone you were previously chatting with opens up, and is empty.

I Save all Transcripts.
But if I turn off the Option to show the Last (Or more) Chat(s) I do not get blank chats at iChat Launch.

If I do use the Show Last Chat option it shows the Last Chat I had with that person when I star a New chat with them (very useful for checking when someone was last in a group chat.)

If I follow your Method and don't Save Transcripts (and make sure there is No tick in the "in new Chats... " option) I do get a Blank chat with that last person when I then Quit iChat and Restart (I used the Menu Bar Option to Quit.)

If I leave the Window Open and change back to Save Transcripts then the Window still appears to that last person (Like the Remember Open Chats across Launch in iChat 4)

This would point to the Remember Open chats Across Launch has become a permanently On feature.

In the .plist there is an item called "NewChatLastAccount"
This is not there in iChat 4.

So, wait. Are you saying there is a method to revert it back to the way iChat 4 used to handle chats?

On further testing from the beginning of this chat related to my last post it does seem that a sort of "Remember Last Chat" can be achieved.

I tested with Save Transcripts Off having pre selected the "In New Chats ..." also to be Off.

This gave me a Blank chat window to the Last Buddy I had been testing it with, when I Quit iChat when the Chat window was open.

If I did with Save Transcripts ON it showed me the contents of that last chat.

I was trying to duplicate what the other poster had said and could replicate it.
I did what I thought was a simple add on test to see if it was linked to anything else and came to the conclusion you have.

I have not said more as I don't thing a one Buddy test justifies calling it a "feature".
I am aware that I Installed Snow Leopard over the top of Leopard so my com.apple.ichat.plist may have things in it from previous setting that could be made as I have not deleted it since the Snow Leopard install.

I need to check further. (but it looks that way)

Yeah, that is exactly the problem i had, Sorry if i worded my posts incorrectly. The thing i hope to get out of this is to not have any chat window open when i open ichat. I want to have a "fresh start" with only the buddy list.

I am now seemingly getting Blank IM info but the Chat headed as chatting with the Last Buddy if Save transcripts is ON but In new Chat window is Off when Wuitting iChat with an open Chat.

I get the IM shown if the In new Chat Window is set to Last Chat as well as Save transcripts.

I may have confused myself earlier but I did say i wanted to do further testing.

No,

I am consistently getting "blank" but headed New Chats if Save Transcripts is On but in New Chat window ..." is Off.

If Save Transcripts is On and "In New Chat Window ..." is set to Last Chat I can "replicate" Remember Open Chat on Quit if the chat is left open.

OS 10.6.1 did no direct Update of iChat 5

I can see how this would sort of "replicate" the window behavior of iChat 4, but what about how the transcript is saved?

I want to be able to segregate conversations into separate transcript s for one person like I used to be able to do (by closing the chat window myself, it would "seal" the transcript). And if I quit iChat with the conversation still open, it would still be modifiable when I reopened iChat again later.

If I choose to "show: the last chat", I would think that there will only be one transcript ever created for each person, adding to it every time I start a new chat, even if it's a year later (the same way the iPhone does with SMS).

Is this not right?

I seems to get a New Saved Transcript if the "New Window" opens a previously Closed (Old) IM

I have not been able to find the time to go though saved chats for Open windows at iChat Quit.

Yes, that is the problem, the blank window with the name in the header. I dont want it to pop any window up except the buddy list when i start it. I dont want to delete every blank window when it opens.

The only way if Saving Transcripts is to close all Chat windows before Quitting.
