Spontaneous logout while in Snow Leopard

I am having spontaneous logouts while I am in Snow Leopard. This is happening a couple times a day and it is very annoying. When it logs out it instantly goes to a blue screen and then the login screen appears. When I log back in all my apps have quit and it is like I am logging in for the first time. I did have this happen in Leopard too, but very rarely.

Here are some facts that may help:

MacBookPro5,1
Bluetooth on : apple mouse, keyboard
Network, wired ethernet
Connected to external monitor via mini display port.
All software patches up to date.

Anybody else experience this problem? Any suggestions.

MacBookPro5,1, Mac OS X (10.6), 4 GB memory

This just happened to me, and I lost a lot of unsaved work. I also got -

07/12/2009 21:30:37 Finder[180] HIToolbox: received notification of WindowServer event port death.
07/12/2009 21:30:37 Safari[217] kCGErrorFailure: _CGSLockWindow: Cannot synchronize window backing store

Repeatedly in Console. I am running 10.6.2 and was in Pages 09 at the time. Will file bug report for this issue.

FWIW, I have been having this problem ever since I got my brand new Mac Mini in April. It is running 10.5.8, 4mb of RAM. I have Microsoft Office 2008. I also have FileMaker Pro Advanced 10.0v3 and run Firefox 3.5.5 all day long. It always happens to me when in Freehand MX. But I also lose my keyboard control several times a day, either in Freehand or Photoshop CS3. Pulling down a menu item with my mouse fixes that and it is annoying, but not as annoying as the log out.

So, from my experience, this is not just a Snow Leopard issue since I am not using it. I changed my settings in FileMaker to only save cache every 10 minutes instead of during idle time and also am trying to run Entourage without the email schedule checking every 5 minutes and will do it manually for awhile.

I brought my machine in to the genius bar and they did diagnostics on it and found nothing wrong with the RAM or anything else. I have been on the phone with Apple Care a bunch of times on this issue and so far nothing.

I just submitted a bug report. I wish we could figure this out and soon!

Well, it just happened again. I thought it might be caused by the automatic email schedule in Entourage (MS 2008), but that's not it either. Bummer.

I sure hope we can figure out the problem. All we have in common is that there is a WindowServer port death. It's not even OS version specific!! Grrrrr!

I haven't experienced spontaneous log-outs since upgrading to 10.6.2. I don't use any MS Office products. I formerly experienced the problem in Adobe Creative Suite CS(1) but use it for hours at a time without problem now.

I have however, experienced several kernel panics at work... typically while not doing anything noteworthy. Panics are equally bad, but at least they get detected and generate a report to Apple automatically.

I have the same problem. It looks like VMware Fusion Helper did it. I haven't used VMware in weeks! I was just browsing the web and then it logged out. I don't know if VM uses Rosetta, but I have version 3.0.0 (204229) of VMware.
