Exchange issue: send/receive mail fine - can't delete or move messages

---If I take the box off line, and work on my mail, move stuff, delete stuff, whatever I want, everything OK.
Then, I rightclick on the box, select synchronize, and voila, everything is synced to the server.--

CONFIRM this work around does indeed work for me as well. Took the account offline and moved messages. When I went back online the messages seem to still be in my inbox but as the sync starts to happen they are moved and or deleted. Still need a FIX for this problem, need to move and trash messages while online to the Exchange server.

Either of the following worked for me:
1) My Hosted exchange provider updated to SP1 rollout 9(the most recent I understand)
2) I deactivated all rules on my Apple Mail account.
Now everything works smoothly. Can create subfolders, move messages, delete messages. Online and offline.
Problem solved.

Our IT man did the latest rollup last night and everything is A-OK now!

Man, I wish I had seen this topic earlier. The solution is VERY easy.

The only thing you have to do is to select your exchange mailbox, then go to the "Mailbox" menu, and simply choose "Rebuild". This ought to take care of it.

If not, then
1) Go to preferences.
2) Delete the Exchange account that's causing problems. Accept the prospect of having everything wiped out.
3) Set up the Exchange account again.

If your mailbox is not reconstituted as before, then rebuild the mailbox as described above.

That's very bizarre. What happens when you simply rebuild the mailbox? This ought to eliminate an discrepancy between your local mailbox and the one on the server.

In my case, I think what happened was that I deleted a message from another PC in our company while Mail was still connected to the Exchange server. Then, that change failed to register in Mail, and when I deleted those same messages from Mail, it would give an error because the Exchange server probably reported that it can't delete a message that doesn't exist.

Since your messages reside on the Exchange server, there should be no problem even to wipe out everything inside your ~/Library/Mail folder and reprogramming Mail with the Exchange settings.

But, perhaps if you can provide some detail about what happened just before the error started occurring, then we'll be able to pinpoint the problem.

I should add that if you store EVERYTHING on the Exchange server, you can wipe out everything inside ~/Library/Mail

If you have local folders, then you should be more selective about what you delete.

@Tyrun, I think you need to push your IT dept for the rollup 4, as the minimum thing they need to do. However, while they are at it, why not do Rollup 9 in one go?

SP2 is out... Our IT guys are applying the usual wait one month before you touch anything from Microsoft rule but I am expecting to be connecting to it next week. Who knows what fun will happen after that.

Updating to Rollup 9 fixed the problem here.

We are at rollup 9 and the problem is still a problem.

I am using command-x to delete files (or cut and paste to a folder) as a workaround, but if I try and use the delete key, or right-click-delete, the error pops up.

The rebuild seemed to work for me as well. Thanks for posting this, my email has been acting funky and started doing double downloads, still a blessing that I do not need to use Entourage! 😉
